Why We Like The Mojo HD5 SLX Mountain Bike

The inspiring Ibis Mojo HD5 SLX Mountain Bike creates confidence in hairy situations better than any bike we’ve ridden before. A competent climber that truly shines on the descents, this ‘earn-your-turn’ specific build incorporates inclredible value from the likes of Shimano, DVO, and Fox products. We’re beyond impressed with the capabilities of the HD5, which has been using DW-link suspension since 2010. The bike is tried and tested by the best in the world at professional level enduro events, giving us confidence that it’ll handle our local bike parks too.

Geometry on the HD5 is as dialed as we’d expect from a mainstay bike in the Enduro World Circuit. The bike is easy to pedal and responds well to any amount of effort we’re willing to put in. Head-angle is placed at an appropriate 64-degrees with the specced 170mm fork. The slack approach angle gives us confidence going down the steepest shoots we’re comfortable pointing down. Also appropriate is the fairly steep 74.5 degree seat-tube angle that keeps us over the bottom bracket and hard-charging up long fire road climbs. Though some other bikes are equipped with steeper and slacker angles, the HD5 has specially tuned suspension to give it ultra-capable ride qualities.

Though not unique to Ibis, DW-Link suspension has been around for decades and the tried and true layup is put to the test on the HD5. Ibis has gone through the trouble of tuning suspension in the factory, meaning we get the best possible ride quality direct from the box. Tuning on the HD5 is built to help us go fast, with a soft early and mid-stroke to keep the rear wheel planted and plowing through chunder. We’re as impressed with the climbing as with the descending while DW-link suspension takes nearly all our pedaling input and puts it into the wheels.

Barreling down climbs and having enough energy to come back up for one last lap is what the HD5 excels at. We’re putting this world-level heritage race bike up to the test year after year, and the descending and climbing performance makes it the envy of all our riding buddies. With the budget group but performance-oriented Shimano SLX drivetrain and brakes, we’re enjoying top-of-the-line shifting and braking performance without the price penalty. Ibis finishes off the wheels and handlebars, and with their 7-year component and frame warranty, we’re hard-charging through this decade and into the next on the HD5.

*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be minor. If you have any questions, reach out to a Gearhead by chatting online or calling 1-888-276-7130.
