Laying down a massive footprint with its 34mm internal width, the Ibis 938 29in Boost Wheelset gives riders a stout solution for conquering formidable stretches of trail. The 938 facilitates super-low pressures in the range of 10-18psi with 2.8 inch plus-sized tires. Riding a plus-sized tire in its optimum pressure range increases traction while smoothing out rock gardens and bumpy imperfections on the trail. This is especially important if you're riding a plus-sized 29er hardtail on terrain usually reserved for full-suspension bikes.

The wheelset's Boosted hub width equates to unrelenting stiffness, which is an area that's affected the handling of 29ers since their inception. By increasing the front and rear hubs to a respective 110 and 148mm in width, the 938 achieves a comparable stiffness to 26-inch (front) and 27.5-inch (rear) wheels. Ultimately, this means higher levels of precision and unflappable confidence when you're holding a line through the roughest sections of trail.

The 938 boasts aluminum construction for a price-conscious wheelset with proven durability demanded by abusive trail riders. Tipping the scales at a respective 1935 grams, it's certainly competitive for such a wide wheelset designed for plus-sized 29ers. Each wheel is laced with 32 Pillar double butted spokes in a three-cross pattern for dependable strength. They're available with a HG driver for Shimano/SRAM 9/10-speed drivetrains or a XD driver for SRAM's exceptional XX1 drivetrain.

  • Stout wheelset for trail riding on plus-sized tires
  • Tried-and-true aluminum construction stands up to trail abuse
  • 34mm internal width pairs well with 2.8-inch tires
  • Stealthy appeal without flashy logos or loud colors

Are the hubs quiet?

They're not particularly loud. I'd peg them as somewhere less than an I9 but louder than a Shimano hub.

Ibis 938 29in Boost Wheelset

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these as a temporary solution for my new 29+ setup while I decided what Fancy carbon wheel to build. After ~50 miles on them I'm pretty sure I don't need to keep looking. I easily mounted the 29x3.0 bomboloni's with a floor pump and the wheels feel plenty light and stiff. For the price point they are amazing.

Ibis wheels are the real deal

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought these with my wreckoning. At first I was skeptical because I was not familiar with wheels made by ibis... Well I no longer am as these wheels are amazing. Stiff, wide profile and they work well in every discipline. I'm sold on Ibis wheelsets and hubs!!!
