Big Swiss.

Given the fact that even skinny road wheels are getting wider with each new generation, it's hard to argue against them on mountain bikes. The Ibis 928 29in Wheelset continues its efforts to establish a new standard with its 28-millimeter width, and the addition of a DT Swiss 350 Rear Hub means the 928s are some of the most race-ready factory-built wheels that we carry.

The wider rim's largest benefit may be felt in tire pressure. They're tubeless-ready and, with a wider footprint, allow the tire's sidewalls to stay vertical rather than swelling like a light bulb. Both of these mean you can run lower pressure without sacrificing efficiency or risking a burp — in fact, they actually grip better while cornering and offer improved power transfer through a more efficient contact patch. Ibis has found that light riders on moderate terrain can run as low as 17psi in the 928 rims.

The generous width also makes the rims themselves more structurally sound, even while using less material. The profile design of the rim is essentially a rectangle, not an inverted "T." This spreads out any impact force over a greater area, especially when partnered with Ibis' hook-less bead. The result is less weight, more stiffness, and a stronger overall rim.

Ibis 935 Carbon hoops

Using the 935s on by Spec S-Works Enduro and couldn't be happier. Was concerned the width was going to be too wide squaring off the tire tread too much making for a squirlly ride... but not the case. Running Maxxis DHF 2.3 front and Maxxis Ikon 2.35 rear (both EXO cased) and they both still have a nice round profile (at least setup as new but may stretch over time).. rolling resistance appears the same as my 23mm narrow stock rims and 2.4 tires. Rims are very stiff with zero flex detected under my 210 lbs weight. My previous wheels were factory Roval Traverse that flexed in hard corners and technical pursuits, but no flex detected from the 935's. Have run psi at 22 and performed flawlessly with no burping or rim bashing. Worth every penny thus far based on the exceptional holiday deal CC offered them at.
