Custom lust.

We've all been there, staring at the computer screen during a mid-afternoon lull. Pining over a set of HED factory builds but wanting to lace those rims to a silky set of stealthy hubs or a duo of beehive buzzing bling — possibly the perfect "bombproof" wheelset. Ignore that little voice in your head that says you can't have it all and go custom with the HED Belgium Plus Rim.

The Belgium Plus is the same 25mm-wide rim features on HED's Ardennes Plus wheels, which not only increases structural integrity, but also allows the tire to seat with straighter side walls and a larger contact patch with the ground. These properties contribute to a lower rolling resistance, more secure grip while cornering, a higher tire volume that requires less PSI and nets a more comfortable ride, and — counterintuitively — a smaller aerodynamic footprint by eliminating the light bulb rim-to-tire transition. And just in case you're looking for the fastest rolling setup around, the Belgium Plus is compatible with tubeless setups, in addition to traditional clincher tires with tubes.

Excellent Cross, Commute, or XC Rim

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been running the Belgium Plus rims a couple years and have nothing but good things to say about them. I use them for primarily commuting with plenty of long weekends riding gravel, bikepacking, and hopping curbs. The rims are a decent width for tires anywhere from 25mm wide to 45mm and although these are marketed toward road, gravel, and cross I'd trust them on an XC mountain bike on flowier trails. They set up tubeless easily with all the tires I've tried and ride reliably and solidly. I did dent a rim but it took hopping up stairs on underinflated tires. It was a good size dent but I kept riding it tubeless for 6 months after with no issue.
