Description

C5 Gore-Tex Active Jacket

Your cycling addiction has you way too dedicated or perhaps you're time-crunched for that important event coming up to take the day off of riding because of some precipitation. Suit up with the C5 Gore-Tex Active Jacket from Gore Ware and hit the road or trail responsibly and revel in the fact that most people decided to just take the day off. Sure, you could have called it off too or ridden indoors, but let's face it, riding the rollers or trainer doesn't give us the endorphin release we're after and it's always good to hone those wet weather skills.

The C5 Gore-Tex Active Jacket is a fully waterproof piece that gives you the protection you need when it's coming down in buckets and staying warm and dry isn't just for comfort, it becomes a necessity. Its constructed with a soft Gore-Tex Active fabric that’s quiet on the ride while remaining lightweight, extremely breathable, and water and windproof. Gore cuts this jacket in a cycling-specific fit so you get plenty of coverage while in the saddle and it doesn't in any way affect your range of motion. The back features a zippered pocket for stowing essentials and a zip under flap for additional coverage from wheel spray. Final thoughtful details include zipper pulls for easy operation with full-fingered gloves and reflective print for greater visibility to motorists in low light conditions.

  • A jacket to weather the storm on the rainiest rides
  • Gore-Tex membrane keeps water outside
  • Moisture-wicking fabric pulls sweat and breathes
  • Cycling specific cut is functional and protective
  • Zippered back pocket stashes snacks and tubes
  • Keep rooster tails at bay with its rear drop flap
  • Waist hem locks in place with elastic gripper
  • Reflective details increase visibility in low light

This is the perfect cycling jacket for the chilly and wet days. The problem I had is with the sizing. if not for this issue, I would give it 5 stars. I originally ordered an XL on the website and when it arrived, the label said "US L EU XL" and it fit like a large so I sent it back. I ordered again making sure that I got the intended XL. When it arrived, the label said " US XL, EU XL", but it fit like the previous US Large so I sent it back once gain. One last time I ordered an XXL on the web site. When it arrived, the label said "US XL, EU XXL" and it fit like the XL that I was looking for. I don't know why there is such variation and confusion regarding the sizing with Gore Wear, but it is maddening.

Amazing Material, Less Than Optimal Fit

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit:
Runs large

First off the material and construction of this jacket is top notch. I have other Gore Jackets and love them so it was an easy decision to go with anther one. The fit and sizing missed the mark for me. My previous Gore jackets are all size large but this one was larger in some areas and smaller in others. First off the sleeves were a few inches too long...so much that it bunched up over my gloves which was annoying. The collar is short as well so if you like to tuck your chin in when in a deluge you'd be better off looking elsewhere or wearing a neck tube. That said, the neck opening seemed smaller as well (if sized to a medium I probably would not be able to zip the jacket up all the way). The shoulders fit perfect but the body was much larger and caught wind like a kite. The material is super quiet though so you don't get the annoying flapping sound in the wind. The gore material does a stand up job and kept all water out during a two hour deluge on my gravel bike. I wanted to like this jacket but the cut/fit just didn't work for me. Too bad for me that from the time I purchased the jacket to when it actually rained and I could use it was more than 30 days so I'm stuck with a jacket I won't use.

I love Gore-tex materials. Once you go gore, you can't go back. They will block out wind and rain while still venting out heat like a champ. If you don't know how gore differs from other materials, hit youtube. It functions well in the rain and wind. I had it packed into a rear pocket on my long sleeve jersey for the start of an afternoon ride and it packed down well (assuming someone knows how to pack/roll gear). I bought both the S and XS (BC has weird sizing information listed on-site). I usually go with euro sizing and should have continued to do so, but was unsure so I bought both and returned one. Ended up going with the EU-Small. It's a proper race fit, with a fleece layer under to boot. I have several "end of season" races this year and am really happy i get to ride them more comfortable with this. Really surprised I went with the XS-US on this, though. It's a first, owning an XS in anything US-sized. All of my jerseys and bibs are all US-Small, so I assumed this would be the same. Im not "small" lol; i weigh 150 and am almost 5,11"...
