C3 Gore Windstopper Helmet Cap

Your helmet is great in the summer, with plenty of vents to keep air moving to keep your head cool. However, when temperatures start to drop, you need to add the Gore Wear C3 Gore Winstopper Helmet Cap to your combination to keep yourself warm. This hat features a Gore Windstopper membrane to defend your head against heat loss without trapping air in—keeping you from overheating. The synthetic interior efficiently wicks away moisture, so no matter how hard you pedal you can expect to stay dry, while an elastic binding keeps the stretchy fabric from moving around.

Gross feel. Not warm.

The material feels kind of clammy and disgusting, not something you want on your head. Pretty much holds no heat, just blocks the wind where there's wind blocker. Well made, good fit, good coverage but I won't be buying more GORE that would touch my skin.

Great in 40-50 degree weather

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Good ear coverage. The part around the forehead, ears, and neck is windbreaking material. The part on top of the head is more breathable. The whole thing keeps the head from getting cold, and it’s also not made me feel hot. I’ve used this in 40 to 50 degree temps and felt great.

Keeps the head warm

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Runs big. I wear a 7 and 5/8 fitted ball cap, and wear a large helmet. Also have a decent amount of hair. The large fit loose on my head even with all that said, keeps the head warm. The fit sticks out the front of the helmet and over the hairline/top of forehead. When riding hard I found it almost too warm unless the temp was in the low 30s or below.

I purchased Gore's helmet cap and also their thermal beanie for comparison. The fit of the helmet cap was much better for me, with respect to the ear coverage -- the helmet cap covered my ears very well, while the thermal beanie just barely covered them. I returned the thermal beanie because I am sure my ear lobes would have become uncovered pretty quickly once riding! I wore the helmet cap out on a 45-degree day and my ears and head were nice and warm, and the fit felt great. The Cons of the helmet cap: (1) I wish it had slits for glasses like the thermal beanie. (2) The fabric near the ears is noticeably louder in the helmet cap vs. the thermal beanie. It rustles quite a bit...but once I was out riding I didn't notice it. (3) I had a line across my forehead for the rest of the day, there's some serious elastic holding it in place! But I think this is the cases with most caps like this.
