It doesn't have to hurt. Much.

Getting out on your bike in the dead of winter requires a lot of drive, determination, passion, and windproof, breathable gear. Nobody does windproof and breathable quite like Gore. WindStopper fabric became the benchmark softshell material years ago and it still leads the way. With light, synthetic insulation and windproof breathable Windstopper fabric, the Gore Bike Wear Xenon Thermo SO Glove is ready to give you the upper hand in the battle against Old Man Winter.

However, Gore didn't stop at fabrics to keep your hands comfortable. The Xenon SO features a design that's specific to road cycling, and this forethought is most predominantly displayed in the grip of the gloves. Knowing that you're applying consistent force at the webbing between your thumb and pointer finger (think of how you grip the hoods), Gore reinforced the area to resist abrasion and to strengthen the grip. Further along these lines, Gore also coated the fingers in silicone for confident shifts and added both gel and foam padding to the palm of the gloves to absorb road vibration and reduce numbness and fatigue .

To make you more visible in low-light conditions, Gore also added reflective accents throughout the the gloves. Gore also added absorbent material on the thumb to allow you to wipe away sweat before it drips into your glasses and snot before it shellacs your 'stache.

Gore Bike Wear Xenon SO Gloves are available in White or Black and in from Small to 3XL.

I love these gloves

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I got these as a Christmas present to help me get out and ride more in these Utah winters. When paired with the Giordana FormaRed Carbon Lightweight Men's Jacket (they match up perfectly at the wrist to keep the wind out) these gloves have kept my hands toasty warm on rides from 40 down to 25 degrees. My biggest problem in the winter is getting too hot, sweating, then suffering the chill through the rest of the ride. These gloves have been great at keeping the wind out and staying warm even when slightly damp. I've got thin but long hands and fingers and the XL fits perfectly. They also look great.

I also own a set of Pearl Izumi Lobster gloves, which have been much too hot to wear in these conditions. The only ride when they've worked is when I went up the canyon on a 30 degree day. At the top of the canyon it was 15 degrees and I put on the lobster gloves for the descent. They worked very very well in those conditions, but are much to warm for 25-40.

Solid cycling glove

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I hate riding in the cold...mainly because I can't stay warm. So I ordered a pair of these from backcountry after much research and I'd say I made the right choice. I wear these between 30-50 degrees and they are perfect. I don't get clammy or sweaty hands/fingers and my hands don't go numb. The fit is perfect, however, if I could change once thing it would be that they be made with more of a "spandex like" material so that they would make shifting/braking a little easier. I don't even know if thats possible, but hey, its a review and this would be my only recommendation. Again though, great gloves, you cannot go wrong with this purchase!

Gore Xenon So Thermo Glove

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

This is a solid glove. I'm very happy but your experience will obviously depend on your build. Firstly, I have small wrists. If you have large wrists then I could certainly see how this might be a little constricting. Secondly, these fit me perfectly but I have very small hands. Finger length was fine (I opted not to buy another glove due to repeated complaints about the thumb length.) The lining is very comfortable and the windstopper materials work great as I've ridden in some very high winds. My biggest complaint is this: Inside of the left handed glove Gore decided to place their product tags but they're numerous, and folded, and large and I hated the way they felt against my skin so I tried to carefully unstitch them. Unfortunately, I cut a very small portion of the lining when doing so. No big deal but I hated to have to go through the trouble. In my humble opinion the user of a 'performance' product should never have to worry about the tagging on their gear. It doesn't make any sense. Other than that gripe I love them. If Gore ever decides to revisit the way in which they tag these then I'll give them five stars instead of four.

Glove with Concrete Gel Pad

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This glove is a nice mid weight winter glove but it has gel padding in the palm that turns to concrete in cold weather. If you took the insert out I would give it 5 stars.
