Frozen brains don't work

You've tried headbands, skullcaps, and even those little bandannas that make you look like 'Il Pirata.' However, we know that if you're reading this, none of those have worked. Desperate times call for drastic measures, and if your winter is anything like ours, November through March is certainly a desperate time. This year, don't accept a frosty head, use the Gore Bike Wear Universal SO Helmet Cap.

Gore's Universal SO Helmet Cap lightly fits over your helmet and cinches down with an elastic drawstring and cord stoppers. It's been constructed to seamlessly and securely adapt to the shape of most helmets, so that your investment doesn't fly off with the wind. For the materials, Gore made the membrane of the Universal SO with the venerable Gore-Tex fabric. Waterproof, windproof, warming, and highly breathable, Gore-Tex has proven itself to be the ultimate in winter protection. Now, we understand that this is a tall order, but Gore alone has proven itself capable of commanding such absolutes. Enough so that we can't exactly tell you how Gore-Tex works, because it's easily the closest guarded secret in the fabric business. What we do know is that your head will never be dryer, regardless of how bad the weather is.

And don't think that Gore forgot about your safety. The Helmet Cap has been given reflective accents throughout to increase your visibility in low-light conditions. The Gore Bike Wear Helmet Cap is available in the sizes Medium and Large and in the colors Black, Neon Yellow, and White/black.

Unanswered Question

Your description for the item "Gore's Universal SO Helmet Cap lightly fits over your helmet and cinches down with an elastic drawstring and cord stoppers. " doesn't seem to match the photo of the item. This looks like a skull cap and not a Helmet Cap as described. Might want to update your info.

Warmer and quieter

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

Excellent Skull Cap. Keeps wind off the ears. I use it with a summer helmet in 50s weather, and with my covered helmet when colder. Limits wind noise some also, a plus to those of us with tinnitus. Also reversible, I can have yellow sides for visibility, or Grey sides for invisibility:) Wife got one too, these are great.

Sweet fit and protection

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Using this under my helmet for winter training rides. Offers a great formed fit over the ears and low on the back of the neck. Windstopper works great to keep the heat retained and quiets wind noise

Keeps your head warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Like the other reviewers mentioned, this is a fantastic product - fits easily under your helmet, but when you cover your ears with it, it does such a good job that its like wearing ear plugs. I tend to just keep the flaps slightly above my ear canal for most riding, and on the downhills, I'll pull it all the way down to keep the cold air out, and the sound, too.

Keeps your ears warm.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The Windstopper placement keeps your ears from getting blown off while the fleece allows the top of your head to vent. This is perfect if you tend to sweat a lot. Be forewarned that the Windstopper over the ears reduces your hearing a bit, and I also like the fit of the Thermo version better (more ear coverage), but it's an excellent product otherwise.

A must have for inclement weather.

5* Stars to the SO Universal Thermal Cap!

Universal So Caps

Universal SO vs. So Thermal

Here's some side x side pics (which don't do the Thermal justice), but you can see build, and some difference visually...wish I had a better camera! Trust me, you'll love the Thermal version, and won't regret getting it for winter riding.

The regular version is still a need for in-between seasons.

(here, the 'Thermal' is on the right side).

Notice the little 'grey slits' on the sides for your glasses arms' to fit neatly into, preventing a gap for cold air to pass into!

Universal SO vs. So Thermal

O.K...Now 'kick-it-up-a notch'!

The Universal SO cap is O.K. for fall/spring, but leaves much to be desired: the top of this particular cap has no real protection/warmth...essentially, it's a head band with a top. I've both this and the SO Thermal...a huge difference!

***Pictured here is Gore's Universal SO Thermal cap (as the previous reviewer mentioned).

Outstanding fit & warmth!

Fits under my 'M' Specialized S-Works Prevail helmet with no problem. It also covers ears better than the other. Note the little slits on the sides: for slipping the arms of your glasses/goggles through, but not all the way through, there is material back behind opening so that the wind isn't going straight through to your head, nor creating a gap for wind to get in around the arms of the glasses.

O.K...Now 'kick-it-up-a notch'!

Great "Head Band"...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Great protection for ears, and all around exposed areas under helmet; but top of the cap is indeed very thin, and not very warm at all. I looked everywhere for the other cap (universal *windstopper SO thermal) mentioned by the previous reviewer and finally found it at a bike shop some distance away from my area...last one they had (including warehouse availability)...but soooo worth it! What a difference! And the technical design: allowing your glasses to go through the cap without creating air gaps; and so very warm. Will still wear the other version on not so cold days. If any of you can find this other cap, get it while you can (or next season if need be)!!!

Gore's #1 Product in Winter

In my years at Gore, I have known one thing. You can't go wrong with our winter accessories. This is our best seller and it is killer. If you want warmer, hit the Universal SO Thermo up instead as we took it to the next level and our customers in Chicago and Minnesota couldn't be happier.
