Some of the best riding starts with a long and slow climb up a ridgeline, which also happens to be where storms are most prone to breaking, as they make their way over mountain passes. No matter how bright and sunny your ride might start out, the weather can turn on you in seconds, leaving you soaked and frigid on top of a mountain pass. Be prepared for unpredictable weather on your fall and spring rides with Gore Bike Wear's One Rescue Gore-Tex Shakedry jacket. Gore's designers beefed up their nylon fabric to withstand harsher abrasions and snags from branches, catering to the rough terrain that we encounter on mountain bikes, and then topped off their nylon with a Gore-Tex membrane featuring Shakedry technology to keep water rolling off, ride after ride.

A lightweight lining is bonded to the Gore-Tex membrane for maximum breathability from a super packable piece. Sweat and water vapor is wicked away with ease to keep you dry inside, and topped off with Shakedry technology, Gore's most breathable lightweight product. Eliminating a face fabric all together, Shakedry offers a permanent water-beading surface that consistently performs to keep you dry, and at such a light weight that you barely notice it when it's on. When it's packed down to stow in its chest pocket you'll find it fits neatly in your saddle bag or hydration pack with ease. An off-centered zipper keeps clear of your chin, working to prevent rashes and irritation from a rough edge against your skin.

  • Super packable lightweight weather protection
  • Completely water and wind proof Shakedry Gore-Tex
  • Micro Grid backer technology resists tears and abrasion
  • Durable water repellant that keeps moisture out ride after ride
  • Packs down small to fit in your jersey pocket or hydration bag
  • Under-helmet hood keeps your noggin dry
  • Pullover half-zip decreases packed size
  • Small reflective accents on back and sleeves increase visibility
  • Fully taped seams keep water from seeping in through cracks

didn't get to use it

  • Fit: True to size

Unfortunately I didn't get to use this awesome piece. The weather cooperated :( It packed small enough for me to carry it around with me on a week of riding in Peru and not notice I even had it. This thing packs down super small!

Feathery light

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I debated between this jacket and the Gore 1985 GTX Shakedry. Both jackets are made from identical materials. The Rescue has a hood, chest pocket, and 1/2 zip. The 1985 has no hood, no chest pocket, higher collar, and a small rear pocket that the entire jacket can fold into.

I am 5'10" 175lb and just fit into the L. If I wanted to ran a base layer, jersey, and light insulation layer, the L was a tight fit and the XL would be better.

This jacket is feathery light. It does feel delicate and i would hesitate to use it mountain biking. I'd worry about long term durability around the shoulder straps if riding with a backpack. However, this jacket is a roadie and commuter dream. The hood fits snug and would need to go under a helmet.

One of the best

No doubt a 5 star jacket. You just can’t go wrong with Gore-Tex Shakedry. This jacket is feathery light but will keep you protected in the wind, rain, and even snow with some base layers. This piece can pack down to the size of a small fist and be thrown in a race jersey pocket with ease. And, the best part about Shakedry technology is the breathability aspect, unlike lots of other weatherproof outer shells. For a cross country rider doing intervals up and down a mountain to a recreational commuter just trying to stay dry on the way to work, this piece will be one of the best options on the market. Although the off centered zipper may look sort of funny, it is really nice because it steers the zipper clear of your chin and face making it seem like it disappeared. The zipper goes down pretty far, so its not a wimpy quarter zip; it reaches down past my chest, far enough to really dump some heat if needed. This also makes makes taking on and off the jacket easier. The zip design itself brings both edges very close together. Some jackets have a big burly zip going up the center of the coat, this is not like that at all. It is a slick design that complements the lightweight theme perfectly. The pocket on the chest is convenient and large enough to fit my iPhone 7 or some nutrition, but not a huge pocket. There are accent marks to increase visibility too.

As for the fit, the Medium for me at 5’10” 157 lbs was perfect. Tight enough for a racer without any loose ends, but still providing room for layers underneath. It’s super mobile and comfortable in a bike position as well as when just when walking around post-ride. The cuffs seal up around the wrists nice and snug to prevent water from coming in, but are stretchy enough to fit over a light pair of gloves. The waistline is similar - snug to keep the elements out, but stretchy and comfortable. The hood is small and compact preventing any wind catch while having the purpose of stretching over your head under a helmet. Overall, this is a packable jacket that caters to lots riders. Weatherproof, lightweight, and tough enough for getting rowdy on the trails. Awesome jacket!
