Don't let wind stop you.

Show blustery winds who’s boss with the Gore Bike Wear Base Layer WindStopper Women’s Turtleneck. Like the name implies, it’s built to stop cool breezes from chilling you to the bone. And with breathable panels, you won’t overheat in the process, either. Something tells us you’ll be wearing this one off the bike as well.

Gore’s WindStopper is renowned for its supreme wind-blocking abilities, as well as its breathability. In other words, while it stops wind from cutting through, the construction of the fabric lends itself to pulling moisture from the inside and transporting it to the surface where it can evaporate. However, for a next-to-skin piece, the ability to expel excess heat is essential, which is why Gore built stretch polypropylene panels into the underarms. There’s a 1/4-length zipper, which further allows you to regulate your temperature. The generous sleeve length ensures that it won’t ride up, much like the riding-oriented drop tail, which covers your backside when you’re in the drops. While it makes for a perfect cold weather riding base layer, odds are that you’ll find yourself reaching for this top during a wide range of outdoor pursuits.

The Gore Bike Wear Base Layer WindStopper Turtleneck - Long Sleeve - Women's is available in six sizes, from X-Small to XX-Large, and in the colors Black, White, and Light Grey/white.

Very comfortable layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XS

I bought this for the wind protection it touted in critical corporeal areas. It is a nice addition to the multiple layers I wear under a wind stopper-fabric jacket, especially because of its moisture wicking and comfortable, flexible fabric. The front zip helps with easy on and off. It is form-fitting yet I have comfortably worn another baselayer and arm warmers underneath it with a fleece jersey and Windstopper-fabric jacket on top on a day of weather in the teens and wind chill in single digits (and it is stylish as an added feature).

My experience is that it fits true to size, but I tried on both XS and S for a fit comparison.

Winter staple

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Although I like the thermal fabric much better than the Windstopper fabric, I wanted to have a Windstopper turtleneck just in case for blustery days. The fit is a little smaller than it's twin thermal turtleneck. This one offers less stretch and softness; it's more rigid, makes more noise, and has a tighter form fit. Because of this, I opted for the XL on this one instead of the L, which I got my thermal turtleneck in. The quality is great, as expected from Gore. This turtleneck is comfortable, the lengths are great, and the white/gray color is pleasant. I would recommend this to others, but would suggest ordering in two sizes, then returned the one you don't want so you're able to determine the one which will be most comfortable for you!

The best base layer ever!!!!!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This base layer is not for the faint of heart! It is a seriously warm piece! It fits snug, vents well, has the advantage of being a half zip and most importantly it does what it says! It keeps you warm and the wind out. I save this one for the coldest of rides. If it ever goes on sale I am stocking up! Worth its weight in gold!

Great top but too big

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I think this base layer would be fabulous for staying warm in the winter. It's really well made and I like the feel of the fabric. I'd read on another website that it runs small. I usually am an XS but took a chance and ordered small. Alas, it is true to size and the S was too big. If you struggle to stay warm in the winter, I think this would really help.

Again...what wind?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Now I absolutely love and recommend this wind-stopping base, above the crew: simply because you get the option of zipping all the way up for the cold and blustery rides; or, un-zip as needed for venting. With the crew, you've no venting choice. It's worth the few extra $, I think.

Rode in 40F with winds 30mph., under Gores' ALP-X 2.0 winter jersey, and the Gore ALP-X 2.0 GT Jacket, and Gore's Windstopper tights. Topped it all off with Gores' Thermal cap, and the ALP-X Windstopper gloves...a few quick zips vented as needed along the ride; no problems!

(...hey Gore, I should get paid for this demo!)

Fit seems a bit more lean than the W.S. singlet base I just got (and will be returning, which ran a bit more generous, but way too long to fit under my road jerseys).

And, because it is a zip-mock, the "GORE" emblem isn't located front and center when venting the jersey...I like that!

Great ventilation on the back. Recommended!

Love the demos and reviews - keep them coming !
