Description

Hero7 Black Specialty with SD Card

Freakishly smooth footage, smart-capture superpowers, and waterproof without housing—the GoPro Hero7 Black Specialty with SD Card is here to change the game and set the bar high as the most advanced Hero yet. Headlining the feature list, HyperSmooth video stabilization gives you gimbal-like stabilization—without the gimbal—and actually predicts your movements and phases out camera shake to deliver insanely smooth footage. Then, a new intelligent photo mode provides the best-looking and most brilliant photos automatically, and allows you to share each and every breathtaking moment as they’re happening. Needless to say, GoPro took what we thought couldn't possibly be made any better, and did just that.

The Hero 7 Black continues to opt for a GP1 processor, supporting the smooth playback of higher frame rates (ranging from 4k at 60fps on the high end, to 1080p at 240 fps on the lower end) and the groundbreaking HyperSmooth 3-axis video stabilization. GoPro's most advanced video stabilization to date, HyperSmooth astonishingly does not use a gimbal, and essentially predicts your movements and corrects for camera shake to keep your footage silky smooth and crystal clear, for everything from your white-knuckle downhill bike races to fast-paced hot laps through the terrain park, which would all normally be a jittery, headache-inducing affair when viewed at lower frame rates.

GoPro took into consideration the terrain that usually comes along with outdoor action sports—oceans, mountains, rivers, deserts, skateparks—and made the Hero 7 Black extremely rugged and waterproof up to 33 feet without a housing to keep up with any adventure. Getting you the best shots possible, 12MP SuperPhoto intelligently applies HDR, local tone mapping, or noise reduction to optimize your photos, while the Photo Timer makes it easy to grab a GoPro selfie or group shot with your whole crew. TimeWarp Video Capture lets you take super stabilized timelapse videos, even while you move about a scene, which you can then speed up to about 30x for more shareable moments. Or you can use the 8x Slo-Mo to relive funny or epic moments in all their glory.

GPS Performance Stickers can be added to your videos in the GoPro app to show off how much faster, farther, and higher you went than your friends in the video, which can be also shared instantly via the app. Beyond bragging rights, the GoPro app allows you to instantly post, text, Tweet or Snapchat all the wet, sandy, and snowy adventures that you just wouldn’t capture with your phone. For easier editing, you'll find GoPro's Quik Stories feature, which automatically cuts out the boring stuff and keeps the very best footage, suddenly making the pain of editing movies a fun and easy process. The Hero 7 Black also retains many of the previous version's best features, including the impressive touchscreen display, advanced wind noise reduction, voice control capabilities, and vertical portrait capture. Once again, GoPro proves it's the number-one adventure companion by taking your photos and videos to a whole new level.

  • The best Hero yet, with silky-smooth, crystal-clear footage
  • Three-axis video stabilization is unbelievably smooth
  • Smart 12MP SuperPhoto automatically captures the best shot
  • Waterproof without housing up to 10 meters
  • Quik Stories automatically uploads and edits footage
  • Two-inch touchscreen display for intuitive operation
  • Track your speed, distance, and more with GPS stickers
  • Actively filters out unwanted noise for crisper audio quality

Awesome camera, with some downfalls

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I love this camera and the quality of the photos. I upgraded from a 3+ and the difference is staggering. I use it climbing, in the ocean, taking action photos of the family playing sports and my dog running on the beach. I don't use it for extreme sports, like surfing or mountain biking, but I think that just proves how versatile this camera is. It's not just for extreme athletes capturing a moment, it can be used for everyone wanting to capture a cool photo or video of adventures. One feature I absolutely love is the ability to pull still photos out of videos. That wasn't a feature on the 3+ (at least when I started using it) so I always used timelapse to capture as many stills as possible to pick from. But that's a lot to go through. So now I can video everything, while still getting the stills I love, which is absolutely AMAZING. I do have a few things that happened to the camera within the first week. The protective lens started fogging after about 5 days of daily use in water. I did the suggested fix of removing it and drying the camera for a while. That didn't help, though, so still searching for solutions a couple of months later. The other problem is the protective doors are starting to rust and become more difficult to open after use in saltwater and freshwater. After use in saltwater, I always rinse the camera in freshwater. So I'll probably have to spend more money to replace them sooner than I would like (I've only had the camera for 3 months). Overall this is an awesome camera and I'm really stoked about it. The issues are minor and wouldn't prevent me from buying again in the future.

Impressed

I had an older version and the improvements are amazing! I was scared at first to use in water but I went to Mexico and used in snorkeling! Picture is incredible.

Great Buy

Great buy! The improvements from the previous models are amazing and the removable battery is a must. Great quality footage and the touchscreen makes it easy to handle.

Hypersmooth Hype

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Well, I saw too many insta videos of the hypersmooth and had to see what the hype was about. guess I am a sucker for good marketing and people who shred the gnar really hard. The camera is awesome, its just a GoPro, but the hypersmooth is crazy. The voice control is cool, the camera is small and the black looks awesome with the matte finish. Giving it 4 stars because I typically only use it on POW days and it does seem to die quickly in the cold (avg about 2 hours for me before dying) I think instead of complaining about the battery I am just going to purchase a second one and put it in my pocket for when the first one dies and just keep filming all day. plus it lasts all day in 40+ degree weather so not too worried. With so many new capabilities its amazing that it lasts as long as it does in the cold.

Sweet!...but battery was a surprise

This significantly improved my ability to capture footage of my 5 year old shredding the mountain. Voice control is cool. Only surprise - the battery and storage was smaller than anticipated. Buy some spare batteries...especially for a cold day.

Such steady footy!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This new camera is unreal. The footage comes out a little too steady. It makes the roughest trails look like concrete. I'm going to have to step up my gnar.

AHHHHHHH

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've always wanted one, never wanted to spend the money. I spent the money.... AND I AM SO HAPPY OMG ALL THE THINGS!!!!! The voice activation is super awesome, though maybe a little touchy, still awesome none the less. I read about battery issues in the cold and experienced faster power drain in the first battery that started with about 60%.. then I put in the fully charged battery and had about 3 hours of go time with no issue while snowboarding. It didn't die after 3 hours - I just stopped using it. Great images, incredibly smooth video and great sound. I absolutely love this thing and it's a great investment for someone who is always on some sort of adventure!!!

Love it

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bough this Gopro this winter for my self and i have loved it! We have taken it on a few trips to Mexico and it has been great to have in the ocean. I have also taken it with me skiing a lot this winter and it has worked great there as well. It is stable which I love! No more shaky footage.

Better frame rates/hypersmooth

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Hypersmooth only works in 2.7k. Keep that in mind. More than usable for consumers. 4k60 and 2.7k120 is amazing. It's a gopro, nothing ground breaking. Just a more refined tool.

Worth the Upgrade

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I used to ski with the Hero 6 and Karma grip. The karma grip would always die from the cold and I would be left unable to use the camera (at least stabilized). Additionally, it was always super clunky to carry around the grip and camera. Hero 7 gets rid of these issues. I have one good powder day with it so far, and filmed every run in the morning until the battery died after noon. I would say thats about what i hoped for and sufficient for me!

You Need To Upgrade

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I am so in love with this GoPro!! I have been taking it everywhere with me!! I have used it in the cold out on a hike, I have used it in the water at a hot spring, and I have used it inside. I LOVE IT!! It has worked well in all situations. It takes amazing photos/videos and I can move them to my phone super easy. It is the best adventure camera out there. I love that it has voice commands so I can just tell it what to do, and the touch screen on the back is soo nice. I had an old GoPro Hero 4 before this so I am loving all the new features!

Pretty Rad

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I really like the new GoPro! It has the same camera as your phone, it's better quality if only for the fact that it isn't jumpy. The videos are smooth. The only thing that kind of bums me out is that the battery seems to drain quickly. Maybe it's just mine.

>Rating: 5

Great upgrade

Had the Hero 3+ before this which worked amazing. Decided to upgrade and I am very glad I did. Quality is way better, no more cases, and the stabilization is light years better than the 3+. Works great.

I bought this and used it in cold temps

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

(sorry andrew...) I took mine with me to ski Alta in 10º and looovered it. Seriously tho, I've had this a week and can't put it down. I had the Hero 3 before and I cannot believe the quality upgrade. Thank you @Gopro for inventing Gopro. Can't wait to use it more.

Awesome stabilization!!

Went from a 6 to this and the stabilization is light years better. Maybe not gimbal mquality but close enough for us amateurs.

Loving it!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've been super pleased with the ease of use! The touch screen on back is easy to navigate and the app is easy as well. It really would be a 5 star review but the battery dies very quickly when using wifi and the highest quality video settings. It is super smooth and the quality is second to none. I love it!

HyperSmooth or All Hype?

This review will focus solely on the new HyperSmooth Stabilization feature. Since Gimbals for GoPro's became available, I've been using one. I honestly love my gimbal and it's a GREAT tool. When the HERO 7 came out claiming to be a "Gimbal Killer", I was immediately skeptical. I picked up a mount that allowed me to mount my new GoPro HERO 7 next to my trusty GoPro HERO 6 and do some side by side testing. *This is where you should watch the comparison video I've shared along with this review. I obviously recommend watching the whole video for the full comparison, but the actual side-by-side shots start at 2:00* I think the side-by-side video does the talking. The Stabilized HERO 7 is significantly smoother that the HERO 6. Gimbal Killer? In my opinion, no... A gimbal still is a great tool and I won't be getting rid of mine, but I will say -- I'll likely not be skiing with my gimbal this year. IS THE GOPRO 7 WORTH THE ADDED COST OVER THE HERO 6? In my opinion, yes. I would recommend springing for the HERO 7 over the HERO 6 as I feel like a gimbal is required with the HERO 6 and a gimbal is an optional (but nice) tool for the HERO 7. -- Although I didn't cover any of the other features on the camera in this review, I find the rest of the features to be on par with, or exceeding the features and performance of the HERO 6.
