Decent shoe, but loads of heel slip

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I tried these on at home and immediately knew I had to return them. The heel "catch" is way too low and doesn't hold your heel in place. Instead of catching up near the Achilles, it catches midway down the heel. Felt like a loose fitting house slipper. My old Giro Privateers fit much better with absolutely no heel slip. Went with these because I thought they would hike a bit better on rocky trails than an XC oriented shoe, but with this amount of heel slip there's just no way these will hike well.

I love them, but they're not perfect

Familiarity:

I bought these to replace my tired Specialized Rime Expert shoes. I didn't want a shoe that screamed XC and I didn't want a shoe that looked like an orthopedic skate shoe either. These not only fit that bill, but they matched the colors of my V1 Ibis Ripmo in the black and olive perfectly, not to mention my WTB tanwalls with the gum outsole. With that color combo, I couldn't really see any alternative! I ended up ordering a size 43 instead of my normal 44 based on reviews that it fit large and I kind of regret it. The shoes fit my rather narrow size 10 feet, but the toe box is just a hair too small. It doesn't ever bother me on the bike, but I know that they could fit better. The Boa dial can also be a bit finicky to release, but I'm never in a race to take them off. Other than those issues, the shoes are fantastic. The gum-colored outsoles are grippy enough for short hike-a-bike sections while still feeling durable. They also feel like the offer a decent amount of protection from rock strikes. I'm really glad a took a shot on these and it always makes me smile when I see how well they match my ride. I know that's a silly reason to like a pair of shoes...but I don't care. I'd buy them again if I had to.

Comfortable, but flexy

4 months review on these guys. I liked them most of the time. Pretty stiff, heel comes out when hike a biking. But I am more of an enduro oriented guy and I feel like the shoe was too flexy torsionally and made me feel unstable on the bike. I think this shoe is not made for too aggressive of riding. I would appreciate more stiffness, I am looking to get the Kestrel Boa now and will update a comparison to those. Overall though, not a bad shoe and pretty durable so far, just want more.
