Street Style, Super Safety.
The Giro Sutton MIPS helmet is a low-profile helmet with several features for the urban rider and commuter. The Sutton has the look of a skate lid that freeriders and dirt jumpers have come to adapt as their own, but the MIPS technology increases safety and will keep your head protected if the time comes when you have to use it.
The Sutton MIPS styling takes cues from that of a skate helmet, but the similarities end there. It's constructed from an expanded polystyrene liner, like most high end road and mountain helmets, and uses an in-molded polycarbonate shell adding durability and abrasion resistance on the outside. The eight vents will keep your head cool as you do battle in the urban jungle. One feature we really love is the inclusion of a small, removable, soft visor offering stylish protection from rain and setting sun. An integrated clip in the back makes snapping in a light a cinch and helps put the light at a more visible level for motorists. The two reinforced rear vent ports allow you to run a U-lock through the helmet when you lock up your bike.
Safety is after all why we all wear helmets and the MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) structure integrates into the Sutton and looks identical to the non-MIPS equipped model. MIPS allows for a separation of the EPS foam from the retention system via a sliding system, so that in a crash, rotational forces are reduced protecting your brain and neck from certain impacts. Developed in Scandinavia, the MIPS system is used on a growing number of helmets from different manufactures in various sports, and is certainly worth the upgrade if you are looking for the safest helmets possible.
