Foray MIPS Helmet

The rising popularity of helmets such as Giro's Air Attack and Synthe, shown to reduce drag by up to 14% in the right conditions, shines a spotlight on the shift in attention towards aerodynamics in every piece of cycling kit. For those of us who can't quite stomach the cost of those top-end lids, Giro brings us the Foray MIPS Helmet with trickle down aerodynamic technology and industry-leading Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) design at a much more palatable price point.

The big news with MIPS technology is its ability to diffuse certain impact forces in the event of a crash. MIPS comprises a strategically anchored, thin liner on the inside of the helmet that looks exceptionally simple, but serves a big purpose. That little liner is designed to move independently of the helmet shell and reduce impact force compared to standard, non-MIPS helmets.

While the Foray isn't quite as light, as breathable, or as slippery in the wind as the Synthe, it utilizes many of the same technologies in both materials and manufacturing as it's more expensive sibling. It's made with Giro's In-Mold construction, a technique that effectively unifies the helmet's EPS foam liner to a polycarbonate shell, as opposed to simply adhering the two together, creating a lighter, stronger structure.

The helmet also follows Giro's Streamlined Design philosophy, allowing slick style to permeate the functional aerodynamic shape that dictates the helmet's efficiency. Finally, the Roc Loc 5 retention system dials in the proper fit to your head, comfortably and easily, while still being up to 40% lighter than competing systems.

  • Helmet for riding safely and comfortably
  • In-mold construction forms a lightweight, strong structure
  • MIPS technology reduces rotational forces
  • Streamlined Design tech improves aerodynamics
  • 21 vents ensure you get plenty of airflow
  • Roc Loc 5 retention system secures a custom fit

Perfect fit!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

This is by far the most comfortable helmet I've ever had in my 40+ years of cycling. It's like they used my head as a mold. And it's the $63 model. I can't image that the next MIPS model up for another $100 or so could be any better, other than having a few more vents. But I wear either a thin scull cap or lightweight hat. Not sure a few more vents would make much a difference for me. Anyway, great helmet.

It's MIPS!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I wanted an affordable MIPS road helmet that was decent looking and this one really fit the bill. It's has nice styling and is well made. It is a little warm since it doesn't have a lot of ventilation but other than that it's great! I was not able to find another MIPS helmet that was cheaper that looked this good. I'm at the highest end of what a small says it will fit (55cm) and with the adjustments the small fits me perfect. The medium also fit but I had to have the adjustment all the way down to the smallest setting.

Unanswered Question

Buying a Giro helmet for my wife. According to Giro’s size measurements, she is right up against the upper size of a small but the medium ( according to the numbers ). Will not tighten down enough to fit her. Any suggestions on size?

Amazing Helmet For The Price

This is a great MIPS equipped helmet at a very reasonable price. It's lightweight, comfortable, and a great fit. Highly recommended.

Super excited to have my helmet. Kind of worried about my noggin taking a blow. Love the fit compared to the cheap helmets I usually buy! And the dial really tightens to you head and it's easy to adjust.

    Good fit, not super ventilated

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First of all the helmet fits great, it feels very protective and does not sway or move. The straps are easily adjusted and the inner line too. But the part that I'm not so pleased with is how much I sweat when I wear this thing. Most of my riding is in the early morning before or just after sunrise and even at this time of day I'm feeling warm with it. I can still recommend it and it's an upgrade in protection and looks from what I had,

    Giro Foray MIPS helmet

Bought this on sale, great price for a MIPS helmet, fit is perfect, very comfortable. With minimum adjustment helmet is barely noticeable. No hot spots on long rides, four hour plus. Ride five times per week in hot, humid weather with no issues.

This is a great helmet with MIPS. Haven't taken a crash in it, but, it fits well, and should serve it's function!

      Foray fo'real.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My previous helmet experience is pretty limited to a ski helmet and a super stuffy Bern noggin protector, so I'm fairly certain it was inevitable for me to fall in love with the Foray. Can't beat the price considering the lightweight performance, MIPS technology, and dependable fit. I'm a medium in my women's Smith Vantage helmet and purchased a medium in the Foray and it fit perfectly! Super stoked on this helmet.

      What a great deal!

$85 dollars and MIPS!? Wow. The helmet looks great and really comfortable. I have a big head (hat size 7 3/4) and I can get a winter cap underneath this with still some room. It is also lower profile so I dont look silly with a huge mushroom head.

Giro did a great job on this. If you need a great commuter helmet, back-up helmet or just don't want to spend over $100, this is it... Just sexy!
