Item # GIR007H

Dabbling in affordable aero.

The world of cycling has come, in the last few seasons, to a deeper understanding of the importance of aerodynamics in helmets. Witness the pro peloton's adoption of slippery, low-profile lids virtually across its teams, and the rising popularity of helmets like Giro's own Synthe or Air Attack, shown to reduce aero drag by as much as 14% in the right conditions. That's not a small amount, either. But because we can't all afford the pros' stuff, Giro brings wonderful pieces like the Giro Foray Helmet to market, so us mere mortals can enjoy the tech and style of the pros, just without the stress of trying to afford them.

We can tell you off the bat that the Foray isn't quite as light, as breathable, or as slippery in the wind as the Synthe, but it's darn close. It utilizes many of the same technologies in both materials and manufacturing, as well. It's made with Giro's In-Mold construction. a technique that firmly unifies the helmet's EPS foam liner to a polycarbonate shell, as opposed to simply adhering the two together, creating a lighter, stronger structure that's ultimately safer. The helmet follows Giro's Streamlined Design language, allowing slick style to permeate the functional aerodynamic shape that dictates the helmet's efficiency. Finally, the Roc Loc 5 retention system dials in the proper fit to your head, comfortably and easily, while still being up to 40% lighter than competing systems.

Great Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

While it's not the MIPS, it's a great lightweight helmet. It's more than suitable for my cycling needs. As always great fit and styling from Giro! always.

An awesome helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I'm sure there are more sophisticated helmets on the market but for me, a non pro rider, this helmet does the job. It's pretty light and sits great on my head. Highly recommend for anybody that is not in the search of a pro helmet.

Comparable to the Aeon, Incredible Value

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

My current helmet is a 2015 Giro Aeon, which is very light and comfortable. It also had a list price of $200 when new.
The Foray has a very similar design to the Aeon, and has actually improved the side buckle guides so the straps lay flatter against your head as they pass through the guides. The padding is nearly identical, and both use the excellent Roc Loc 5 rear fastening system, which easily allows for one handed fit adjustments using the rear dial.

Now, the Aeon certainly looks better, with more sculpted angles on the top of the hard shell, where the Foray as a more rounded and duller finish, but that’s purely cosmetic. Both helmets are extremely well ventilated, with very similar large venting on the front, rear, and sides.

One difference is the weight, my Aeon comes in at 230 grams, the Foray is 260 grams (both size Medium). That’s about a one ounce difference.

The Foray’s value simply can’t be beat. I got it on sale at CC for under $30, even at the full list of $65 it’s an incredible bargain.

So, great fit, great ventilation, great value, and one ounce heavier than my old helmet for about 1/6th the price.

Recommended, get one while you can.

Great buy

  • Fit: Runs small

Great helmet. The only issue i had initially was that i am usually a small and this one did not fit my head in the small. I have to exchanged it for a medium.

Solid choice of helmet.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

It protects my head, which is most important.
It fits nicely. The straps are not annoying once trimmed to proper length, and the ratchet fastener in back operates easily to give a snug but comfortable fit.
It comes in white, which is the color of classy helmets.

It could use a little reflective paint, but that's easily added with tape.

Great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The fit is great. The last helmet I bought was too small although a size large but this is true to size. Is aero too and lightweight. Highly recommend.

Does this helmet have the MIPS system?

It does not Elisabeth, here is the link to the same helmet with MIPS.....

Would buy it again

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wear this helmet every time I go riding and being a mountain biker have put through some wear and tear but it it is still holding up quite nicely and priced great!

Feels great

Solid brain bucket.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I snagged the Giro Foray as a budget road helmet to keep around, since it doesn't break the bank, but found that I genuinely like it, not just as a good deal find. Its comfortable and easy to adjust, and I like its subtle style. I wear a Medium in most Giro helmets, and wear the same in this helmet with no issues, so I would say it runs true to size as well.

High Value Helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A great looking, comfortable and adjustable biking helmet. Worth the price.

Great helmet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet is not only a great price but it also is comfortable and very light. Can't go wrong with this one

Great price!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet gets the job done, and at a great price! Love the colors - no complaints!

Cool and good price

Good light helmet allows good ventilation of air. For many hours of use

A lime green pop of visibility.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

My old helmet was more than five years old; time for a replacement. This one is lighter weight and more comfortable than my old one. It is summer here and my head stays cool because this helmet is well ventilated. It is a bright yellow-green which happens to be my favorite color, and I'm sure it's very visible in low light. A good purchase!

Bang for the buck and the dome

  • Fit: True to size

lightweight, inexpensive and pretty cool looking as far as helmets go. I like it and recommend it.

I like this helmet.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet fits well, it’s light enough, and it is not too expensive. This was a great buy.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a solid helmet in that it doesn't exactly excel in any areas but gets the job done. As noted in another review, my main gripe with this helmet is that the the strap adjustment point digs into your face. It is not to the point of wanting to return the helmet, but noticeable at times. Overall the helmet is fairly light and fits fine with the proven Giro retention system.
