Empire VR90 Cycling Shoe
The Empire VR90 proves that less is indeed more, sporting a one-piece microfiber upper and boasting one of the lightest weights in MTB footwear. Giro’s Evofiber blends mesh and microfiber effectively wicking moisture from your foot while maintaining an extremely fast-drying outer. The VR90 provides a trustworthy platform for improving pace and maximizing potential.
The modern trail shoe demands exceptional comfort while balancing responsiveness and durability for descending. A rubber toe-cap and mid-foot guard provide added support and durability in key areas needed for pinballing through unforgiving enduro descents. The full carbon outsole is designed to retain stiffness even after sopping wet spring days, maintaining power transfer for grueling climbs in rocky terrain.
- Off-road specific shoe with minimalistic lightweight construction
- Microfiber outer-material ensures maximum breathability in scorching temps
- Rubber toe-cap and mid-foot guard keeps you charging through technical terrain
- Lugged outsole accommodates steel toe spikes (included)
- Performance footbed with adjustable arch support provides customizable fit

These shoes fit the bill for a lightweight, stiff gravel/road shoe. They have a kind of cool, retro look and don't look or feel too clunky when used on the road. No issues with the laces although I did shorten them so they don't flop as much (there is an elastic keeper to hold the loose ends). The uppers do seem to break in with time. I wouldn't rate these as the coolest shoe but I can't say that my feet ever get uncomfortably warm - just that the breathability seems below average. I have narrow, low volume feet and these shoes fit beautifully with no heel slippage when walking. There is choice of three arch supports for the insoles and the shoes come with an extra set of laces. I've only used these shoes in clean, dry conditions so I can't attest to their durability in rough, wet or muddy riding but I expect that they would cleanup and dry pretty quick. I've only ever had to wipe them with a damp cloth.

These are my go-to shoes for gravel adventures. Super comfy and stylish. Soles are stiff and upper is comfortable. I have a mid-wide foot and these don't aggravate the my wide(ish) foot at all. Laces are super secure and don't loosen up or release pressure. Size 44 fits my 10.24 size foot like a glove. Haven't worn these in a mtb setting, but imagine that they'd be equally has impressive.

I ride the ACC Empires, so these fit very similarly. I've found the material on the shoe to be very supple, almost too supple for trails. It's easy to overtighten the shoe with the laces - more so than my ACCs for some reason - and the material is already scuffed and torn (not all the way through) from brushing rocks. The exposed carbon on the bottom gets easily imprinted if you have to scramble over anything, but the Vibram rubber is brilliant at gripping. These may not be the best shoes for XC trail adventures. These are probably way more suited for CX and Gravel at this point. I have yet to find a shoe with a BOA fit that feels good to me for racing. These fit that need but are just a little less prepared for adventures on the MTB when you're not racing. If you want to race XC and CX and can only afford one shoe like me, these are still your shoe, but beware that they will get beat up quickly if you find yourself adventuring on trails when not racing.

Hey Gabe! Did you buy them a little big? How do they break in? Thanks.
