Embrace the Elements.

Stopping for a nature break while sporting bibs is typically a session of removing layers of clothing in an attempt to access bib straps so we can get down to business. While this is an inconvenience while riding in idyllic conditions, it's a down-right pain when it's cold out. Someone at Giro must've had an aha moment one chilly ride and had enough. Fortunately, their design element made its way into the Chrono Expert Thermal Bib Tight. Thanks to the ingenious halter bib design, we no longer have to strip off all of our warm layers when it's time to go.

Adding some luxury to the cold weather riding experience is the comfortable Italian thermal fabric construction. The material provides excellent temperature management and the DWR coating kept us dry. A center panel with a wind blocking membrane keeps winter winds in check. A UPF 50+ rating keeps the sun's rays under control for extended hours during sun drenched days. We instant;y appreciated the comfort of the Chrono CyTech Expert Chamois' immediately upon clicking in and for the duration of the ride, mostly forgot about it. Honestly, this is the highest praise we could give to a chamois. Reflective highlights and logo help with visibility at dawn and dusk.

  • Halter bib design eases nature breaks
  • DWR coating keeps legs dry
  • Italian thermal fabric keeps lower body nice and toasty
  • Breathable mesh straps allow for better temperature regulation
  • Wind blocking center panel provides excellent barrier against wind

Thermal fabric best for winter

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I didn't realize that these were made with thermal fabric. As I am short, these are long enough that with tall socks they will be my winter bibs. I didn't size up and they are fine. I do see why they would suggest you size up as the thermal fabric is not as stretchy as the regular Giro bibs so only size up if it is a challenge for you to get into what you consider your normal size. I love the way the regular Giro bibs fit at the waist and sides. These are cut a little straighter and lower (where the spandex and mesh meet), which is not as flattering for me and may also be a little colder in the winter. Overall, I think these will be good. If the cut at the waist and sides were the same as the bibs, I would give them 5 stars.

Solid winter setup

  • Fit: True to size

Knickers are great for the in-between months where tights are overkill but you also need more coverage than standard bibs can provide. The halter top is a unique solution to help women use the restroom without needing to drop too many layers to get bib straps down. I find the strap to be comfortable even over long distances and the mesh front breathes well so you can layer as normal. Chamois durability and support seems right in line with the price point. I found the knickers to sag a bit in the front beneath my belly button which could lead to some chafing. Really hiking them up pre-ride seemed to help, but after 50-ish miles they had started to slip again. I find that knickers are typically more comfortable to get on than tights and can be comfortable down to around 35 degrees (keep in mind that temp rating differs between individuals) . Stuck with the same size as my Giro halter expert bibs. 5'3, 135 lbs and small fit well

Do not size up!

I have the shorts version of these bibs in a large, so I ordered the same size. The large was very loose and I ended exchanging for a medium. The mediums are perfect! I am 145 lbs and 5'3". Now to get them out on a long winter ride!
