Description

A new take on bibs.

While we all love a good pair of bib shorts, they're often accompanied by mid-ride pits stops fraught with the prospect of de-layering, identifying a sanitary location to set your jersey, and then wrestling with clammy arm bands against damp skin to get everything back into place. Keep your bibs and lose those pit stop blues with the innovative halter top design of Giro's Chrono Expert Halter Women's Bib Shorts. This design brings all the comfortable benefits of traditional bibs while facilitating uncomplicated nature breaks that don't require jersey removal, so you can be back in the saddle in no time.

The shorts feature compressive nylon and elastane to provide muscle support and breathable comfort, while the mesh bibs offer unbeatable cooling and moisture management during warm-weather rides. Just as important, the women-specific Chrono CyTech chamois provides lightweight and breathable cushioning to make your long rides roll by even more smoothly. A radio pocket in back lets you securely stow keys, an ID, and other small necessities, while reflective elements increase visibility to other roads users in low-light conditions.

Like the lighter mesh upper

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: medium

I have the other version of these (lower price). The leg gripper is a bit different (fabric as opposed to elastic) and the mesh is lighter weight than the other version. Although I like the lighter weight mesh on this bib, I think I like the gripper on the other version better. At any rate, the Giro halter is very convenient. I like the mesh around the mid-body a lot. The chamois is good as well. These run slightly large. I ordered a medium and like the fit. I can wear a medium most bibs or large for shorts (mostly due to the rise of the waist) in other brands.

An update!

Giro recently updated these bibs with some substantial changes! I loved the originals and appreciate the changes.
A few things to note:
-In my experience, sizing has felt the same between the current and previous version.
-New version has mesh continuing to the back for extended breath-ability.
-Chamois extends forward with perforations laser cut in. Keeps things cool and clean.
-Giro made most of the bib with their "renew" materials making it more environmentally friendly!

Overall, it seems that Giro aimed to build upon a great bib by making it more versatile for all temps. Highly recommend!

Sizing might have changed?

I bought a pair of these 3 years ago, and I absolutely love them. They're the chamois I reach for every single time. They're the #1 reason I do laundry, so I can wear them as soon as possible after my previous ride. But, I ordered the same size I already had and they were very tight. The fabric feels a little thicker, so maybe less stretchy? And, the material on the halter neck band is thicker and tighter and put too much pressure on my neck. So, I returned. 4 stars for a great pair of bibs. One star docked for the change. Bummed they didn't have the size up.

Absolutely loved it.

Very comfortable. True to the size. Very love the design how you can use the bathroom quickly.

Great Bib but a Little Big

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

When riding the waist it a little big, so I get wrinkles in the stomach and hips area. Besides that the legs fit well and the chamois is great and I hardly noticed the mesh and halter top. Will buy an XS instead of small very soon. (5'4 & 134 lbs)

Halter is a good solve

I was skeptical of these bibs, but someone convinced me that the halter top was actually a good solution for women's bibs and she was right. It makes it easy to pull these off to use the restroom if you're wearing a full zip jersey.

These are super comfortable and you don't even notice the mesh halter once they're on.

I am on the border between a S and a M and went with M, but sort of wish I'd bought small.

The best solution so far

A common complaint I hear from women thinking about wearing bibs is they are concerned about the ease of using the restroom mid-ride. Other brands have attempted to remedy this by odd strap designs. This often leads to a bib that is not that comfortable while riding, but keeps riders from undressing during pit stops. I prefer a bib that provides the support and compression I am looking for while riding over something that allows quick stops. After all, your time on the bike vs time using the restroom is about 95%-5%.

Giro designed their halter bibs to allow quick breaks while keeping quality high. A swift slip of the straps over your head and under the jersey keep you covered when nature calls. The front mesh of the bibs provides great support throughout the mid-section. The expert chamois is incredibly comfortable and I love the added touch of the pocket in the back of the bib. It is a bit hot for days summer riding or for layering under baggies during the hotter days. The strap rubbed a bit on the back of my neck for the first few rides, but I think it needed some break-in time because it is good to go now.
Sizing is typically of an american cut. I wear size 4/6 or small everyday shorts, small tops and the small bib fit perfectly.

Love Giro's take on women's bibs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I own 4 pair of bibs and these by far are the easiest to doff and don for bathroom breaks. I can't believe no other company have jumped on this way to make bibs for women. Chamois is super awesome, have paid over double for assos and these are comparable quality. Only rating it 4 stars because I am always a large in every other roadie company and this brand the legs are a little too big on me and I don't have that traditional "suck in the core" feeling I get with my other bibs.

A unique take on bibs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

First off, these aren't bibs in the traditional sense, but more of a hybrid between shorts and bibs that's easy to remove at mid-ride stops and eliminates the uncomfortable stomach pinching that you get with non-bib shorts.

In the absence of the traditional rear bib strap, Giro uses a high back to help hold everything in place. It's a bit more fabric coverage than you might want in the summer, but is perfect for fall and spring riding. It also adds an extra pocket, which means more carrying space for snacks and other important items. The front "halter' is a lightweight mesh that pretty much just disappears as soon as it's in place, and is the only alternative to traditional bibs I've seen that actually does make it possible to take off the bibs without also removing your jersey. Many kudos to Giro for that.

The shorts themselves are, as expected from Giro, impeccably constructed with fabrics that hit the balance between stretchy and compressive. And last, but by far not least, the chamois is super comfy. These shorts have definitely taken a spot high in the rotation of springtime kit choices, and hold their own against some much higher priced options.
