Description

Continuously striving.

Besides creating apparel that will make you faster, most cycling companies' main goal is to create kit that the most discerning, experienced road cyclist won't notice when they're out training. While it's impossible for us to say whether they'll ever get there, we will say the constant striving has only left us with continuously lighter, more comfortable updates to fit and fabric. In the case of the Chrono Expert Men's Bib Shorts, Giro spent hours testing, fine-tuning, and listening to feedback during production, aiming to make the least detectable short possible while employing the same classy, understated aesthetic it owns so well.

Fabric goes a long way in how much we notice kit in the saddle, and for the Chrono Expert, Giro trusts a Miti Lycra blend to create a short that will move with you while you train, wrapping supportively around your muscles for a precise, next-to-skin fit. The Lycra content in the fabric helps it maintain its shape over hours in the saddle, so you won't have to deal with chafing or stretching fabric, and it uses subtle compression leg bands to hold the leg hems in place without irritating your skin. The stretchy, breathable mesh bib follows a minimal design but remains supportive, shaped specifically to accommodate your body in a riding position.

A chamois is arguably the most difficult aspect of bib shorts to make undetectable while you ride, but Giro chooses wisely with its Custom Chrono Expert, which it created to integrate specifically with this bib short. In addition to supporting you in the saddle with plush cushioning and strategic areas of relief, the chamois breathes and moves with you as you ride, subtly keeping you comfortable so you can focus on the miles ahead.

Perfect option for bibs and a tshirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These bibs perfectly solve the problem I was finding myself in... wanting to go on casual rides in bibs and a tshirt but also having the option to carry stuff. 3 pockets on the back each hold as much as you'd expect from jersey pockets, and the bibs themselves are really well made and fit nicely.

Nothing to write home about

It seems you do get what you pay for. The price was ok and the bibs are just OK. I continue to wear them, but I'm not supper pleased. I bought them during the winter for spring riding, and by the time I wore them and figured out their quirkiness, it was too late to return them. I purchased XL per the sizing chart. Legs are too long, so the gripper bands don't fully adhere to my quads. I have to "hike" them up so the fit around my legs is not "flared" out. Bell bottoms went out of style decades ago. I sure don't want to revive it any time soon... and certainly not on my cycling bibs.
