GiroChronicle MIPS Helmet

Chronicle MIPS Helmet
Trail riding demands a helmet that you can forget about on the climb, but that won't bail on you if you overshoot a switchback and end up flying over your bars. Based on the design of the pricier Montaro MIPS helmet, the Giro Chronicle MIPS Helmet comes with no-frills sensibility for riders who'd rather focus on getting out on singletrack and staying safe than on having the fanciest equipment. Upgrade now to get lightweight, streamlined protection further enhanced by the addition of MIPS.
Like any self-respecting MTB lid, the Chronicle MIPS comes with extended coverage along the back of the head, as well as a protective P.O.V. Plus visor to shield you from sharp branches, rocks, and the sun. The In-Mold polycarbonate shell pairs with EPS foam to provide more traditional protection against hard hits, while MIPS sits subtly inside the helmet in the form of a thin inner basket. This barely-there liner shifts slightly upon impact to absorb brain-damaging rotational energy generated by certain crashes. Plush Coolmax padding keeps the helmet resting softly against your noggin, and 14 airy Wind Tunnel vents prevent things from getting swampy inside the helmet on a warm weekend afternoon.
- Shield your noggin without cramping your style on-trail
- Visor and extended coverage add trail-specific protection
- Lightweight design with 14 vents won't weight you down
- MIPS technology minimizes effects of certain damaging crashes
- One-handed adjustment keeps helmet comfortable and secure
- Plush interior Coolmax padding wicks as it cushions
- Ages 5 and older

I don't know why they classify this an off road helmet. I wanted something with a brim to help keep the sun off my nose. So far so good

To start, I have a pretty big noodle, but I'm pretty thin so it typically doesn't look that big. My helmet size never really stood out until this one. Now, it looks like Sputnik. I attributed it to the MIPs, as I assume they need a bit more volume to accommodate the MIPS lining, so the size is worth it and I don't particularly care what I look like while out on the trail anyways. Otherwise, this helmet has been outstanding. It fits well - I adjusted it to my head the first time I used it and haven't had to adjust the sizing since (in 2 years). It's lightweight and breathes well. It's extremely durable: 2 years and hundreds of rides in, it still looks pretty new. And, other than looking like an orange on a toothpick, it's a good looking helmet.

Helmet looks great, fits great, it’s light. Only complaint is on arrival I opened and cleaned with sanitizer bcz of covid-19 and it messes the matte finish up

If you used Hand sanitizer than you basically just applied Aloe vera w/small amount of alcohol, my suggestion would be to wipe with paper towel soaked in 70% Isopropyl alcohol, that should remove the lotion/aloe vera..

Great helmet for the price, especially considering you get MIPS included. Super lightweight and not great ventilation for those longer rides. Highly recommend for anybody needing a good trail helmet.

looks and feels expensive
I have another more expensive helmet from Giro, and I really can't tell much of a difference between the two. This is a fantastic lightweight piece of gear!

Best Bang For Your Buck!
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This helmet has to be the best bang for your buck out there. It's comfortable, secure, well ventilated, provides great coverage, and even has MIPS! If you're looking to a great helmet at a reasonable price look no further than the Chronicle MIPS!

Solid Helmet at a Reasonable Price
Tough to beat this combo of style, comfort, and MIPS technology at a lower price than many similar helmets. I do feel like Giro helmets run a bit bigger than other brands and would recommend considering sizing down.

This helmet fits great and isn't noticeable even on the hottest days. With the adjustable dial it allows you to dial it in to your comfort level. WOW! Feels great! I would highly recommend this to anyone! The style and colors are perfect for any mountain biker!

Hi PedalPaddles, By removing the two screw on either side of the helmet you could remove the visor.

Really dig the color/style of this helmet, about as attractive as a mountain bike helmet can be in my opinion. Love the way it adjusts and the fit is perfect. Also, as a woman I was a little concerned about how it would fit but the medium was perfect for me.

Backcountry horrible service!
Never got any of the items in my order. After a week of ordering needed to comunicate with customer service. First, service rep blamed on UPS deeming the package lost, then said some of the items in the order were not available. End of story...no item received.

Poor quality that seems the norm now
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
This helmet seems to be emblematic of the poor quality that now seems the norm for Giro products. Tried two of these helmets and both were defective before even riding with them. The first arrived with a broken visor, that flopped around, and the second had issues with the two pieces of the vertical adjustment mech on the head-adjustment element separated while I was trying to adjust it and despite best efforts, refused to go back together again. Not at all impressed with the finer quality of this helmet. It's too bad because otherwise it might have been a great helmet. Definitely not trying a third. Glad I managed to find myself a Bell Super 3 MIPS.

Best Helmet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This helmet is the overall best. There may be many other helmets that seem better than this one because they are really expensive and whatever else, but at the end of the day, this helmet is the absolute best. It comes at an awesome price point, is very comfortable, the one handed adjustment works perfectly, it is MIPS, and looks awesome. One of my initial concerns about this helmet was that it looked like it was really big and makes peoples heads look small, but that is not the case. It does not seem too big while still providing great protection. Would recommend to anyone.

MIPS with good coverage, price and fit
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Whether you believe it works or not, I have decided that I will only buy helmets with MIPS for now. This helmet is very comfortable. The adjustments and fitting system are great. I can set this so it feels comfy, doesn't squeeze and completely stays put. It has great coverage deep on the neck and around the ears. Great style... unless you don't like the look of a cool Enduro modern lid. Vents are all well placed. The top vents are perfect for attaching my light centered side to side and front to back. The visor lifts up out of the way for increased field of vision and for Go-Pro mounting. MIPS... Fair price. The Montaro is very similar; but, it has a higher price tag for insignificant features in my opinion. The Chronicle covers all the basics of style, comfort, safety and features at a reasonable price tag.

Good coverage and ventilation
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The chronicle has better coverage than most, stays very secure and has adequate ventilation considering the coverage. Downside is that for the application, I prefer a bit more coverage of the temple area and the way it secures behind the head can become a bit uncomfortable. Sweat also isn't very well managed so just kind of drips out all over the place when it gets hot rather than being directed like some of the competitors. Overall, at Backcountry's sale price it's a solid helmet but I'd look at the competition if I were paying full price.

Nice Upgrade
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Our neighbor recently was in a mountain biking accident and his helmet saved his noggin. When my wife and I realized how old our helmets were we decided to upgrade. We have always been happy with Giro for our kids helmets and this helmet is no exception.

Chronicle adjustment for headband
Location of adjustment to raise or lower head band on Giro Chronicle helmet is there but not explained in instructions! I saw that a couple of people said the helmet liner/adjustment band rested on their ears. I had a similar issue, where the head band laid just above my ears and was uncomfortable sometimes if I moved my head up or down. I found an adjustment (right hand side of photo, black u-shaped peice) that I could slide up with a small flat head screwdriver. I pushed it all the way up (2 notches, it was originally set in the middle) and it helped lift the headband from the top of my ears. Way more comfortable after that. Limited instructions with the helmet (had to stumble upon that headband height over the ears adjustment, I didn't see it in the instructions).

You could have just let it sit for a few days or tested a small spot first, it's clearly your fault and not the manufacture's.
