Being clipped into your bike has certain advantages, especially when competition is the name of the game. 4X and DH racing, however, demand a unique combination of platform and clip-in style pedals to permit quick recovery when un-clipped. The Giro Chamber Shoe has a nice, stiff insole for being connected to a pedal without hot spots, yet it has a Vibram outsole for traction on pedals when not fully clipped.

The Chamber's internal, molded SPD shank is designed to nest within the EVA midsole to keep the shoes' profile and SPD connection as low as possible. This lets your foot reside close to the pedal axles to encourage efficient spinning for out-of-the-gate performance. The midsole has Poron XRD in the heel cup, that along with a bootie retention system, ensures a secure fit without any energy lost to heel lift.

The Poron located in the heel cup also helps to absorb impact during a bail. Those bails can wreak havoc on a shoe's upper, so Giro equipped the Chamber with a durable, rubber-reinforced toe box. The synthetic leather upper is ventilated for breathability, and a hook-and-loop strap prevents the Chamber's laces from turning into a meal for your drivetrain.

The Giro Chamber Shoe comes in whole sizes from 37 to 48 and two colors; White and Black/Gum.

  • Synthetic leather upper material
  • Vibram outsole
  • Lace-up closure with hook-and-loop protective strap
  • Reinforced toe box enhances durability
  • Compatible with SPD pedal/cleat systems

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are extremely comfortable on and off the pedals will definitely buy another pair after theses ones have seen enough

So Enduro

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

  • Size Bought: 42

I bought those shoes because I could not find a shoe i liked the looks of. But not only did giro nail it on looks, but the sole is stiff enough to pedal good but also allow you to walk in them. For those hike a bike sections. I love the laces and the strap to get them nice and tight. With Crank Brothers Mallet Enduro they do come close to the crank and could use pedal washers. And they offer good protection in the toe area being fairly hard. Saved my toes on a rock strike

Comfortable and Stylish

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just ordered my second pair because, after 1 and 1/2 seasons of constant use, my first pair was finally done. This stylish shoe is stiff enough while still allowing for pedal feel on both Mallet 3 and Mallet DH pedals. Comfortable for long rides and the occasional hike a bike. My only issue has been that these tend to get a little warmer than other shoes on very hot days.

Great shoes

  • Size Bought: 44...i'm actually a 43.5 ( 9.5 )but never able to get half size anywhere

true to size. super comfy. stiff sole but not too steep. pretty good grip for those hike a bike sections and deep creek crossing. did an 3.5 hour ride and foot felt good. lots of protection and all the good stuff for DH also. all around a great shoe. looks real nice

I am glad to hear you like the Giro Chamber Shoes! They are definitely good for hike-a-bike when needed.

Rad Shoes

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 12

I really like these shoes. Wanted a shoe geared more toward the DH/Enduro so I went with these. They're pretty comfortable. I got a size 12, wishing I had got an 11.5 because I have to tighten them quite a bit so they don't slip which then creates pressure right on the top of my foot where the velcro strap goes across. All in all a great shoe. Just my fault for getting the wrong size.

Casual, comfortable, and durable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am one of the many out there that dislike the look of most clipless mountain bike shoes. It almost feels like a necessity to put the road bike spandex on when wearing traditional shoes. These shoes were the calling that I needed. The are comfortable and provide all the performance of an XC shoe, but without the dopey look. They are ultra stiff and protective against rogue rocks or stumps.

Could not ask for a better shoe.

Comfort, durability and no dork factor

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Let me start by saying I don't like many mountain bike shoes. They look silly, they are not comfortable and I hate walking around in them especially around town and when resort riding. The Chambers on the other hand are still extremely functional especially paired with crank brothers mallet enduro pedals and they almost walk around like a normal shoe. They are plenty stiff for cranking hard and the overall fit and performance is excellent.

Great shoes

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Super comfortable right out of the box. Really like the subdued look of these balanced with great performance. I can drive to the trail, ride my bike, then hit a store or restaurant on the way home and never feel like a ballerina tip toeing and sliding around. Neoprene sleeve is also great at keeping dirt and debris out of the shoes.

Despite their skate-style appearance these shoes are about as stiff as my traditional xc shoes, although slightly heavier. I'm using them in conjunction with XT Trail pedals and they feel rock solid. I'm a true 10.5/44 with wide feet and the fit is spot on; very snug without losing circulation during rides.

My only gripe with these shoes is that in the current setting my cleats click when walking. I have Shimano cleats mounted in the very top inside corners. It's possible that other cleat/mounting configurations won't have this issue but i'm disappointed that Giro didn't get this dialed.

Awesome Shoes

Great looking shoes that are reasonably light and stiff. The black/gum color combo is sick!

Felt skinny

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 9

I don't have much to add here since I tried them on an returned them, but these shoes felt pretty skinny. I have a problem with my feet going numb. Lengthwise though, they felt spot on for my normal size

Great shoe but....

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The first set of shoes I got the left mount plate was poped out of the shoe and rattling around inside the shoe.
The second set was fine installed my crank brother cleats and went for a ride. To find out the stock cleat bolts are too long for this shoe and where pushing on the bottom of my foot. I've had many clip less shoes and never had this problem. After cutting the bolts they are awesome. Stiff but walkable and the cleats don't click on the ground. They have plenty of room in the toe box For those with wider feet.

Unanswered Question

How does it feel compares to a 5 10 Raven? I'm looking for a pair of strong, stable and comfy downhill/free ride shoes

Ride like a pro!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I recently made the switch from flats to clipless after a fried of mine noticed I was curling my toes over the front of my pedals as I rode. After he mentioned that I started noticing how unstable I felt while trying to push my riding.

Since making the switch to clipless I have so much more confidence while riding. I feel like I can really take my downhill skills to the next level without having to worry about my feet jumping off of the pedals at any moment.

I wear a size 10.5 street shoe and the 10.5 fits me perfectly. Another nice thing about the shoes is that the toe box is reinforced. I no longer have to watch my footwork as carefully in the tree sections.

The shoe cost less then most other(comparable) spd/clipless shoes and looks better than all of them.

Do these accept a crank brothers cleat?

Yes. I use them with Crank Bros Candy Pedals.

Anyone know if you can ride flats with these? / is there a removable sole insert that hides the SPD bracket?

Yes, they are compatible with flats out of the box. The protective insert for the SPD bindings has to be removed by the buyer.

Awesome Shoe! Unfortunately.....

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Shoe fits and feels great, pretty true to size, nice firm platform while keeping weight down. Unfortunately one of my shoes was missing the SPD mounting bracket so I wasn't able to test them cliped in. Competitive Cyclist gets five stars for awesome service and for promptly shipping me new shoes and a return label. Giro, well they are a great company, but this shouldn't happen.

Very comfortable

To walk in. If you are looking for a lightweight biking

Shoe it's not for you.

do you have to run clips with these?

do you have to run clips with these?

No, you do not. They are compatible with flats out of the box.
