GiroAmbient Winter Skull Cap
Item # GIR00C3
Warm winter miles.
Keep your noggin warm and fend off wind chill through frigid winter rides in the Giro Ambient Winter Skull Cap. Its fleecy thermal lining sits softly against your dome while a wind stopper front panel blocks icy blasts and prevents those uncomfortably bone-chilling headaches and general loss of temperature so often associated with lesser winter head coverings. Made to sit stealthily and comfortably under a helmet, this cap features a small brim that adds a touch of style and helps to keep wind and precipitation from whisking down inside your glasses. Extended paneling protects your neck and ears from the cold, and a DWR treatment ensures you'll stay warm through unexpected drizzles.

I have tried at least five different hats for cycling and the Giro Ambient Winter Skull Cap is the only good one, maybe excellent. The brim is short, so it does not obscure your vision. It provides good windblocking. But most importantly, it covers the ears! Most hats, including Mavic's and Garneau's extend too far down in the back, so the ear flaps rise up and expose your ears to the colds. Giro got this one right. Could use two or three sizes.

works real well for those temperatures near freezing and below 5/10°C (~40°C/~50°C). keeps my head and ears warm, and fits well. if you don't have a good pair of shades, the small visor might be an issue on brighter days.

No issues with this. Does exactly what I expected it to do. I am right on the cusp of needing the larger size, but have no issues with the smaller.

Is this cap water-proof for those of us in rainy winter environments?

No, this cap is NOT water-proof. Synthetic fleece does not insulate when wet. That said, I've combined winter caps with a water-proof helmet cover in cold and wet conditions with some success staying reasonably dry and warm.
