Description

Merino Wool Tall Socks

Wool socks have become a winter staple for us, and we love the stylized fashion of longer cuffs, which are the two main reasons we love Giordana's Merino Wool Socks work not only for our cycling shoes, but our casual shoes, running shoes, even dress shoes. The five-inch cuff helps with both warmth and versatility.

As we've written before, wool doesn't have to be scratchy. Merino wool is soft and comfy. But in terms of overall use, durability and ease of care, 100% Merino isn't desirable. These socks are 57% Merino, 40% nylon, and 3% Spandex. These socks will not stretch out with use and they go great with the rest of your "normal" clothes. Wash on warm, dry on hot, they'll do fine.

These socks have a thinner weave across the top of the feet. The top of the cuff, by the Giordana logo is doubled-over. The Giordana Merino Wool Socks come in three flavors, Black/Grey, Grey/Black, Grey/Pink. Sizes available are S/M and L/XL.

  • Giordana's versatile Merino Wool Socks for any riding discipline
  • Suited for both summer and winter temperatures
  • Merino Wool blend has the ability to keep the body cool or warm
  • Made in Italy in Giordana's factory
  • Wicks moisture away from the skin without becoming saturated as quickly as many synthetic fibers

How to Measure:
Use your shoe size to find your sock size.
Gloves:
Measure the circumference of your hand around the widest part of the palm not including the thumb, just below the base of the fingers. Giordana gloves are race style, if you have "fat" hands you may want to size up.

Good Lookers

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I found these socks decent but not outstanding. Height and thickness is solid, these are great when it’s a bit chilly out but you don’t need an overshoe. The material feels a bit delicate so I’m curious to see how it will stand up, and it also felt a bit loose and not very fitted, having less elastic then I’d like. Maybe a smaller size would solve that but I think it's just the material blend. However they look really good, which is the most important.

Great socks!

These are great socks! They keep my feet dry, are soft and retain their shape well. Wool is by far the best sock material.

Great sock -great price!

The merino wool socks fit perfect and are cozy and warm - I primarily use them for winter hiking and snowboarding and they keep my feet nice and warm!

Banging Wool Socks!

I have owned my socks for 3+ yrs, they're grey and pink, and have worn them every week since their purchase - on and off the bike. They have out lasted my Rapha socks and were half the price. You will not find a better sock for the $$$ Swiftwick would be another great option, but cost a bit more. Cheers!

Thanks for the review Frank!

Great sock!

I got these to give as a gift but ended up keeping them for myself. They are very comfortable and lightweight. Great sock!

    Little less

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S/M

I like the socks. However they were slightly thinner than I expected. Otherwise for what it is, they are a good pair of socks. I have winter insulated riding boots and the socks complement them well in as low as 40 deg.f. And even better at those temperatures on longer rides after building up body heat. My usual commute is only about 6 miles each way.

    Buy many pairs

These are great socks. They last forever and the Merino keeps you fresh all day.

    Great Socks for Any Season

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L/XL

These are billed as winter socks. But the cool thing about wool is that it works at any temperature. The only limiting factor for summertime might be thickness. These are rather thin for winter socks. Still warm when it’s cold, but without added bulk. So I would consider these to be ‘all-season’. They stay up on the calves and look great. Highly recommended. My foot size: 11.5.

I wear size 46 Sidis, and these socks fit great. They are thin, so they're not a Winter sock.

    Socks! Wool! Bikes!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S/M

Love these socks. I wear a 10.5/ 42 size womens shoe and the S/M fits my foot well. These aren't your average thick bulky wool sock which is awesome so I wear them to work, to run and to run. Even if my feet get wet or sweaty, they remain toasty warm in these socks. Only thing I would change about these socks would be to make them slightly longer, 7in instead of 5in?? However these guys are my go-to for colder rides/ runs. They perform like swiftwick sock but are as warm as my favorite ski socks.

Sturdy socks, great for year-round use

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S/M

I must have purchased about 6 pairs in the last three years, and they have become my go-to socks for year-round on-bike use as the material is just stretchy enough to conform quite well to the contours of the feet. With shoe covers and toe covers, they provide sufficient warmth down to the high 20s when doubled up. In the summer, they breath as well as socks having more synthetic material. The 3 year-old socks are still in service, though they are beginning to wear slightly due to age. Only gripe is that CC doesn't carry the ones in shorter length, as those would fit underneath shoecovers.

Perfect for Spring & Fall riding

These are thin, high quality wool socks --well ventilated across the entire top of the foot. Perfect for riding in 55-78° F weather.

Great price for high-quality wool cycling socks!!!

Color: I love wearing the grey/pink in the Spring in homage to the Giro d'Italia! The black looks great too.

This batch is 56% Merino wool, 41% nylon, 3% lycra. Made in the USA.

      Very Nice Sock

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great style with minimal bulk for a wool sock. The grey/pink is actually very cool and are becoming my favorites just because they are a little different.

      Toasty Toes!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Perfect weight...warmth to weight ratio is excellent! Smooth and sleek; unfortunately, my size was only available in the grey and HOT pink...not for me, but who's really gonna see them...so for the price, couldn't pass them up :)

      Seem well made, as usual!

      Brilliant socks!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fit, function, and style. These are a fantastic sock for the price. I wear them to ride, at work, and lounging around the house. I would put the quality on level w/ Rapha's merino crew ($25), but these you can pick up for less than half the price.

      Great fitting, good looking socks

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up several pair of these socks at the recommendation of a colleague and the ringing endorsement of several others here at Competitive Cyclist. They breathe really well, and so far seem to be of quality construction. One of the things I like most about them is the subtle graphics that make them just as fitting on the bike as off. These have become my everyday socks, and so far I am a fan. They are fairly thin, but so far have proven themselves worthy of taking over my sock drawer.

      Great socks

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my favorite socks! I've got 5+ pairs and use them year round from 90+ degree summer days to 30 degree winter days. The breathe really well, and always keep my feet comfortable and dry. I used to use Smartwool socks for most rides, preferring the thicker sole for comfort, but they wound up being too hot in the summer. The Giordana Merino wool socks aren't as thick, but I haven't experienced any lack of comfort. They are thicker than the pair of Swiftwicks I have.

The cuff measures about 6-7 inches depending on the stretch, and stays in place. I'm a 8-8.5 shoe size the small/medium fit really well.

I've had some pairs for over a year now and have worn them as "eveyday" socks as well and they've held up like champs, no material thinning or anything!

      Awesome.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

They are all around great. They are snug, pull moisture away well, and keep my feet warm at night while I'm in the bag.

How thick are they, compared to other merino socks?

      Best Answer

These are not really very thick...not like a heavy-duty hiking sock. They are well made, will keep your feet warm without excess bulk.
