A new echelon.

The Giordana Laser Women’s Shorts are designed with all of the technology of the bib-strapped version, just without the straps, since Giordana is quite aware that not all women are willing to put up with the increased hassle of bib shorts for a minor increase in comfort. To that end, Giordana set out to create a pair of shorts that didn’t make you miss your bib straps, and by that measure, were quite successful. The Alta OF chamois sits at the core of these shorts, surrounded by multiple panels of contoured fabric. Between the chamois and the cut of the shorts, you’ll be spinning away the miles in comfort.

  • Alta OmniForm chamois
  • Core Contour waist panels reduce bunching
  • Wide, supportive cuffs
  • Moisture-wicking Ametista fabric

A dud

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I ordered up a size as suggested, and not sure that was a good idea, although I feel they are just a *little* too big, but it's hard to tell with that HUGE pad. I like padding in my bike shorts, but don't like feeling as if I'm wearing Depends. These are going back. I can't speak to for ride comfort as I only tried them on and promptly took them off. Very strange fit for a supposedly quality bike short.

feel the squeeze

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

From the GF's perspective***
I am 5'8" 135 lbs, short torso, long legs. Avid biker both road and mountain...
I enjoy going on longer 60+ mile rides with these bad boys. Chamois is super comfortable, compared to Vermarc, DNA, Pearl Izumi. I don't think worrying about what your legs looks like is valid point in deciding to make this particular purchase. These shorts are designed to compress your muscles and reduce fatigue. Which is why I opt to wear them on longer rides. In my case I wish they were a bit tighter. I also do not like the seam that separates the black from white fabric, I can feel it rub after a few hours in the saddle. I wish it was one complete piece of fabric.

Very comfortable, but see-through fabric

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The chamois is very comfortable and I have no chafing. I love the high waist, which is perfect for my long torso. The waistband doesn't fold over and fits perfectly. The seams are flat and the chamois is well designed for me with just the right padding. I'm 5'6 and 135 lbs and bought the medium. The fit is tight, but not uncomfortable. The leg bands are a bit tight creating the sausage-look that one reviewer complained about. Unfortunately, I discovered that the material is see through when I’m on the bike. This is very disconcerting! Has anyone else had this issue? I’m not sure if sizing up would’ve made a difference and I’m worried the waist would be too big in the large. If I’d known the material was so revealing I would’ve returned them.

Thin material and sausage legs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Size Bought: large

The material in these was way too thin. Additionally, I don't know why it is such a hard concept for bicycle clothes manufacturers to make the leg elastics large enough that they don't squeeze excessively causing the dreaded sausage thigh appearance. I have muscular skiing/bicycling thighs and this is a regular issue. If I size up, then the rest of the shorts, abdominal waist band, etc. is poor fitting because they are too large. Back these go.

NICE shorts!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are nice shorts. I like the thickness of the chamois. It actually sits under my sit bones and not behind them as many shorts do. Yes this means that I can feel the pad more while walking around, but I am buying them to ride in for longer periods of time and want to be comfortable on the bike. The material is a good mix of compression but not restrictive. And the shorts don't cut into the front of my hips the way some other compressive materials do. The leg grippers are wider and work well. Comfortable shorts and good chamois for padding where you want. I am 5'8" and about 140 lbs. I ordered a L and that is good. Compared to the Silverline shorts these are a snugger fit. I will wear a M in the Silverline as the material in those shorts stretches more.

HUGE Chamois!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I have no idea how all these other reviewers think the chamois is 'thin' compared to other shorts. This is literally the widest and thickest chamois I've ever put on! It was uncomfortable just walking around the house, so they're going back. It's unfortunate, since I like the waist band and leg grippers. For reference, I'm 5'2" and 118lbs and the medium fit pretty well. I'd be curious to see how the small fits, but there's no way with that diaper of a chamois. I do understand that chamois thickness/width/fit is a totally subjective item. Some people like the thick pad and some don't (me apparently!). I own a lot of tri shorts that I ride in during the summer, but I was looking for a higher quality pair of shorts to wear through fall/spring. I guess the search continues!

wore these for the first time today on a 50 mile ride and I was hurting in the lady part area. I also bought the LG Neo Power Fit and I had no problem with them on another 51 mile ride. Has anyone else experienced discomfort? I'm thinking of returning them and getting the Gore Xenon.

Best Answer

The chamois on these is a little 'thinner' than some other brands...the amount of padding one is comfortable with is highly subjective, and a personal preference.

The Xenon definitely has a more substantial chamois that you may prefer.

Also, try using a good chamois cream, if you haven't already. A really good brand (and again, this is a personal preference) to try is *dznutsbliss, for women; also, *Assos (available through Competitive cyclist),makes a very good cream; another one to try is by Paceline, *Chamois Butt'r HER...won't take the place of padding, but will help in overall comfort and skin health.

You may also want to consider a different saddle....

Hope this Helps...

Awesome Shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these shorts as well as the LG Race Course. The Laser wins by a long shot. These shorts fit great and feel great. I wore these on a century ride last weekend and I didn't have any issues with chaffing. I love waste band, it's supportive but not restrictive. They are definitely a tight fit but once they are on they feel great. I highly recommend these shorts. The price is right. I will buy these again. I am 5'4 139 and ordered a large.

Love them!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I have very sensitive skin/naughty bits and always have trouble finding great shorts at a price point under $200 (I ride centuries, so fit/comfort is very important). Just finished a 70-mile training ride in them and they felt great. The quality and fit is top-notch. The pad is just right, too. I'm actually thinking of getting a 2nd pair. I've tried on the Forma Red Carbon in stores and these are far more flattering.

I agree with other reviewers, and they do run small like most Italian products. I'm around 5'6" and 125, and the medium fits perfectly.

love these

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

they are the best ! they fit like a glove, and feel compressive. the material feels breathable and light. Most importantly, the chamois feels great! I preferred these over the Formared carbon shorts, since these felt a little more forgiving.

at 5'4" and 116 lbs, I found that the medium felt snug and perfect. will get definitely buy another pair !

You may like the laser jerseys, too!

Remarkable shorts! Fit is perfect, even on my not-so-cyclist type bod in progress; the waist is comfortable, the leg bands hold their place but not too tight or uncomfortable. The compression is perfect (some may like even more, but for me, these are perfect). The fabric is very breathable and breezy. Would have liked a bit more padding in the chamois, but do-able; also, it is so contoured that it is hardly noticeable! Very slimming, yet unrestrictive. I got the black/white short & the black/white Laser sleeveless top...very sharp and cool (word on the top though, the arm-holes are very close, order-up).

I also have the L.G. neo power shorts that many really, really liked; some say they liked better than these shorts, but I feel these are much, much better in fit and performance. The neo's chamois is bulky, and the material somewhat heavy and hot (comparatively). But that's just my opinion.

Highly recommend these easy, breezy shorts!

Thanks for the comparrison to the L.G.'s. Almost ordered those just to try them but I'm ordering another (smaller :)) pair of these instead!

My Go-To Shorts

These are the best shorts I have ever owned. They fit amazingly well and the chamois is perfect offering just the right amount in all the right places. I don't feel like I'm wearing a diaper, yet I am protected when it counts. Waist band is comfy, leg grippers are just right. After 100 miles in these in 108 degree temps without any crotch issues, I decided these were worth buying another pair. The quality of all Giordana products is exceptional and I am slowly building my collection. I'm 5'3", 138 lbs and the Large fits great. Need to size up with Giordana.

That has been my experience, as well, with Giordana...the best! I was wondering about how compression-type garmets feel in hot weather...will give these a try based on your review! Thanks!

    Hey Kellie,

I recently got the Xenon shorts/jersey/jacket by Gore per review by another lady. Was somewhat skeptical about fit due to my experience of their tight (nice, but of course, NOT Giordana!); anyway, what a good surprise! They are ALMOST as good as these...only Gore needs to work on the contour of their chamois a little better in the back end, but they aren't as 'bad' as some others.

Will always prefer Giordana, but on sale, the Xenon isn't bad either. I'd say it performs just about the same as these do. Maybe give them a try, too! True-to-size.

Thanks, and have a great safe summer!

Thanks, Debbie, I may give them a try :) !! Happy riding!

    Very high quality shorts!

I wear these shorts on my over 60 mile rides, they are so comfortable, the padding is not so thick like some of my older ones, but very efficient for comfort. I will get another pair for sure!

      Great Shorts

love them. I will get another pair. Would not even think of other brand.

I agree, there's really not much else out there to even consider...I just discovered this brand this past's like I've been living under a rock or something...this brand just blows away most others...

        Love These Shorts

It's hard for me to find good shorts - it's either hit or miss with me. This one was a hit. The shorts were comfortable throughout my ride, and the material is terrific. It cushioned in all the right places and did not bunch up towards the top of my thighs.
