Good Idea, but Sloppy.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I was excited to try this out. I wanted adequate ear protection along with a little more skull coverage. It underwhelmed me mightily. The edges or hems around the bottom roll up, maddeningly so, preventing a flush fit under helmet straps. Overall, the fit is not nearly compressive enough. Too bad, as it provides decent warmth and the material does not have too much volume. Sloppy execution, overall, however. I cannot recommend this thing at all.

Not my favorite

I have a hand full of older pearl izumi headbands but wanted to try a different brand with a wider profile. Bought this and a Gore headband. This one is more of a fabric weave feel to it which initially felt nice but it catches easier on helmet interior. This makes it a pain to get sitting right In the helmet compared to izumi and gore products. It also is saggy around the ears so looks weird. Gore was perfect, wide, tight, wind blocking, but not too tight and generally a better fit. Would not order this again or recommend. Might just have to gift it to a broke cycling least someone will get use out of it! I will never wear it again. Too bad but oh well.

You don't know it yet but you need this!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Who would have thought that such a seemingly insignificant little piece of cloth would turn out to be one of the most valuable and versatile items for my winter riding. On it's own I've found it to be surprisingly warm in modestly cold temperatures by, because of it's somewhat elasticized nature, staying hugged to my ears and covering enough of my head to maintain warmth. When the temperature dips, I wear it over any skull cap for added protection. This two-layer method is also highly recommended because the Giordana outer layer prevents whatever skull cap I'm wearing from creeping up over my ears during my rides, which is something I can't seem to prevent otherwise. Lastly, because it's so light, it makes a fine buff substitute for one's neck, in case you're not the buff type. When the weather warms, it easily rolls up and becomes unnoticeable in your pocket. I've worn mine for years and always wash cold and line dry. Thinking of picking up a second one to use for my neck when the one I have is busy on my head.
