Cover for when it's nothing short of a blizzard.
How many times have you tried riding in cold of winter with a balaclava on, only to suffer from a combination of steamy glasses and wet, saliva covered fleece brushing up against your mouth? If you're like us, you probably answered "too often." That's why Giordana created its Knitted PolyPro Balaclava in order to make riding in the winter drier and more desirable.
The knit balaclava covers your entire head and neck, and it features a cutout for the eyes. However, that's where it similarities to a traditional balaclava end. Whereas soft polypropylene was previously used for the entire piece, Giordana placed panels of breathable mesh over the areas of the mouth, nose, and ears. This ensures that derivative moisture from breathing evaporates faster, thus avoiding a soggy balaclava. In addition to this, the mesh over the ears makes it easier to hear what's around you — which is important especially in the dead of winter when drivers aren't expecting to see anyone out riding.
To deal with sweat around the head, the polypropylene earns its way into the title. This material is a polymer, which essentially means that it's part of the plastics family. And while this may sound a bit off putting, you'll be happy to learn that polypropylene is hydrophobic to the point that it's unable to absorb water. And, as a result, it spreads moisture out over a larger surface area, which rapidly accelerates evaporation. So, in short, these fibers ensure that your head will remain dry, without sacrificing comfort or breathability.
The Giordana Knitted PolyPro Balaclava is one-size-fits-most and is available in the color Grey/black.
