Whether this is the first year you've committed to logging winter base miles outside or you're used to riding through the cold, we have good news for you: winter kit seems to just keep getting better. Not only lighter than the billowing, ill-fitting jackets of old, this new crop of winter kit arrives cleanly tailored, made with hardworking fabrics that are capable of both blocking harsh conditions and remaining breathable. Unsurprisingly, Giordana's Men's AV 300 Winter Jacket exemplifies this trend, delivering sleek aesthetics and a highly efficient construction prepared to see you through the very worst of winter this year.

As the warmest jacket in Giodana's new line, the AV 300 complements low-intensity base mile rides the best. On the nastiest winter days, when you're building endurance rather than suffering through intervals, your core temperature doesn't rise nearly as much as it would on a punchier ride. Knowing this, Giodana wisely gave the AV 300 a three-layer eVent DVstretch construction, finished with a DWR treatment on the outside and a micro-fleece lining. While the face fabric shields against rain, sleet, and snow, the plush lining creates a lofted layer of warmth next to your baselayer, holding your own body heat next to your skin to keep you dry. This fleece lining is also highly breathable, designed to pull moisture away from your skin as you slowly warm up to prevent a damp chill from settling in.

In addition to this supple, adaptable fabric, Giordana also equips the AV 300 with a luxuriously soft micro-fleece collar to seal out harsh drafts, as well as brushed Super Roubaix cuffs and a drop hem to protect against wheel spray. You'll have trouble blending in on dimly lit winter roads when light strikes the Pixel reflective accents throughout the jacket's body; the luminescent material stands to prevent you from blending in with the grey winter landscape on lonely back roads.

  • Push through winter's nastiest in this sleek, capable jacket
  • Form-fitting cut leaves just enough room for a baselayer
  • Breathable 3-layer fabric seals out wind, rain, and snow
  • Micro-fleece lining retains heat next to core
  • Plush collar and cuffs block out harsh wind
  • Radiant Pixel accents reflect light to keep you visible
  • Three rear cargo and one zippered rear pocket for ride fuel

Great jacket too tight in the shoulders

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: medium

Excellent jacket but the sizing is off as the armpits were constricting. Sizing runs small

Finally found the one

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It was time to replace my Pearl Izumi Elite Escape AMFIB jacket that was 4-5 years old. I put good use into my winter cycling gear as I ride almost daily throughout the winter. I wanted something that was more form fitting but was windproof and warm as my AMFIB jacket used to be. I ordered and tried on six different jackets. I rode the newer of version of the Pearl Izumi Elite Escape AMFIB jacket thinking it would match it’s older sibling. I was sorely disappointed on my first ride. It was wind resistant not windproof. Not ideal for winter. Thankfully I hadn’t returned the other jackets. I had a tough time deciding between the Giordana’s AV 300 and AV Extreme Weather jacket. The Extreme was more form fitting but didn’t seem as insulated. The 300 fabric seemed a little thicker and the outside felt more windproof. It was tough because the Extreme’s name and that it cost more made me think it would have been the safer choice. I reviewed every review site I could find and still couldn’t decide. I finally read the jacket descriptions from the manufacturers website. They said the 300 was a jacket that would keep you warm when you were putting in those moderately paced winter base miles with the Extreme geared for being thinner to accommodate high intensity work. Bingo! I got the 300 and have been using it for the last 5 weeks. I love it. It gets a little warm if you crank up the intensity or your riding in weather that’s above 40. I just zip the front down. I use a very thin longsleeve base layer underneath. The pockets on the 300 are plenty deep to carry enough goodies for a long day in the saddle. I love the relective 1.5” flap that hangs off the back end. It’s positioned to be in the right spot when sitting down so you stand out to the cars behind you. The front zipper is plastic but it seems high quality. It’s the easiest zipper I’ve ever used. Which makes it nice when you have your winter gloves on. I would highly recommend if you ride in temps 30 or lower, ride at night, or are putting in those slow to moderate winter base miles.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

this is by far the best cycling jacket I have ever owned the quality and fit is outstanding, the shoulders and body fits me like a nice pair of gloves with room for a long sleeve jersey and a baselayer. the feel and warmth of this jacket in 30 degree windy weather was great and I only had on a thin baselayer no wind will get through this jacket. I want to thank the gearheads for helping me select this jacket everything they said about this jacket was true its top notch and I could not be happier.

Tight under the armpits!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I consistently wear a size medium in all brands of bike clothes (and non bike clothes for that matter), but as soon as I put this jacket on I knew I couldn't keep it as it was VERY tight under the arm pits. I mean like pinching you in the armpits tight. The length in the arms was fine, size in the chest was fine, and length in back was fine. Even having purchased it on sale, I'll eat the shipping cost and send it back. For this price it should be perfect.

Hi Jay, thanks for your review! I've reached out to see if we can help get you into a better fitting jacket.

Giordana Quality; Ultra-Warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Like all Giordana gear, this is an extremely well-made, perfectly engineered piece of kit. On a long, 47 degree ride, with only a thin sleeveless base layer, I was too warm. So with sensible layering, I imagine that this thing will be good, easily, down into the high teens or even lower. Great rear coverage; sheds water like a duck. Highly recommended for late fall/winter riding. For reference: chest measurement is 37 in.; fit perfectly with room for layering, without being baggy.

Giordana AV jacket

I have yet to wear it for a ride. I am 6' and 185 lbs and bought an XL with fits great. I did wear it to go to a Yankeee game when it was in the 50s with a 20 mph breeze and it kept me warm when combined with a windbreaker on top. The quality is topnotch

Love it, but...

It really disappoints me that I cannot wear this jacket. The shoulders are just too tight but it fits very well elsewhere. If you look like Nibali, it may actually be too loose on the shoulders,..ha. I wear size medium even in Castelli's race-fit stuff. Anyway, it has excellent fabric, nice reflective elements, an awesome large-tooth zipper with no upper zipper garage (those always make it impossible for me to fully raise the zipper while wearing winter gloves)--but it does have a (reflective) lower zipper garage on the bottom of the zipper, so the zipper doesn't dig into your stomach when in an aero position. Nice reflective elements (including the "Giordana" printed on both arms), and serious Italian-style interior printing. Of course it's made in Italy.

Very Warm, Very Ventilated, Very Stylish

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is my first year riding in real winter conditions. I'm from FL. Not so cold there. That being said I am a cold weather baby! I bought this jacket because it is the warmest in Giordana's line.

The first day I went out; it was 40 degrees and I put on a base layer, jersey and this jacket. Too warm, I roasted like a baked potato. Sweating like crazy, good thing this jacket uses a lot of eVent fabric. The eVent fabric breathes more than Gore-Tex and is just as waterproof.

The next time I went out I knew what I was in for, 30 degrees and I used a short sleeve base layer and this jacket. Perfect! Warm on the climbs, but I unzipped a bit than zipped it up on the descents. On the ascent the temps dropped to 20 degrees and I was still comfy.

The fit is sporty and form fitting, but run longs in the rear to fend of road spray. The jacket may feel a bit odd in the standing position, but pops into place in the riding position. Great jacket. Please let me know if you have any questions. or 801-619-7476

Just Amazing

So many things to like about this jacket. Like Scott says below in his review, this is a phenomenal jacket and the nicest cold weather piece I own. The quality is unmatched as you would expect from Giordana. It has a lot of small details to appreciate from the reflective paneling on the back, fleece collar, to the Giordana lettering on the inside. The details are more noticeable on the blue jacket with green trim. There is a nice small zip pocket on the left size big enough to fit my iPhone 7 no problem that keeps it from bouncing around on my ride.

What I was most impressed with this jacket is how breathable it is when doing intervals. It is like the chameleon of jackets when it comes to temperature change…if that makes any sense. What I mean to say is it has the qualities to keep you comfortable in all sorts of conditions and temperatures and adjusts as needed. The sweat and moisture you produce is wicked away and vented out of the jacket keeping you cool when charging up a canyon. The eVent technology in this jacket is amazing! With many traditional jackets, you end up soaking in your own sweat and get cold when the sun goes away. This is jacket keeps your temperature steady and skin dry so you have one less factor to worry about on your ride. It monitors your heat and sweat output and adjusts accordingly to keep you comfortable, it’s awesome.

When heading back down the canyon with a constant wind, it prevents you from being chilled from the sweat you worked up - totally windproof. It is DWR coated too so no worries if you hit some rain. 50 degrees F overcast with some showers in the radar? Wear this solo. 25 degrees F and need to hit the road for 4 hours? No problem, pair this with base layer or two and it will keep you warm. For as warm as it keeps you, I must say it is quite light and not bulky at all.

I am 5’10” 155lbs and the medium fits me perfectly. The material is pretty stretchy, I have room for up to two base layers underneath. It is a comfortable jacket that fits slim, but not extremely tight. From the racer putting in frequent and hard efforts in to the weekend warrior looking for base miles in cold temps, this is a great option. Do yourself a favor and invest in this, you will not be disappointed.

Let the leaves fly and the snow fall

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

When Giordana set out to update their winter apparel, the set the bar quite high with the AV 300 winter jacket. Simply put, this is the greatest cycling acket I have ever worn!

Right out of the bag you can feel the quality and see the attention to detail that Giordana has put into this jacket, from the heavy duty zipper (wont stick in the cold), built in cuffs to keep the cold out, the tail to keep the spray off the lower region, and the soft fleece collar, each of these detailed pieces help keep the cold out the rider dry. It was also helpful that they angled the pockets in the back to comfortably reach in and retrieve what you need, without having to contort ones arm with most other jackets.

The jacket is quite warm, and I believe that most will find wearing a mid-weight base-layer is all that is required when wearing this jacket. For those that may find themselves riding in the single digits, it may require the addition of a long sleeve jersey on top of the base layer. I would only suggest that if you’re not doing any interval training, as this jacket does keep the body quite warm and doing interval training may lead to sweating and eventually chills. I chose the blue, as it stands out more than the solid black, and with the reflectivity of the back of the jacket, it helps to be seen. I still use a rear taillight for added safety.

Sizing- I went with a size large and I am 5’10” 185lbs. I had room in this jacket for a baselayer and long-sleeved jersey. I believe that I am right in the middle of the large and it will work great for most riders around 175-190lbs and height of 5’10”-6’1”. I had plenty of length on the arms, and when in the riding position the length of the front was ideal or maybe just a touch long.

I am happy to talk to you about this jacket, Giordana clothing or any other apparel needs.

Let the leaves fly and the snow fall

I'm 5'11" and also around 180-185 with a 34 waist and 42 chest
Have had to size way up in Louis Garneau stuff to XL even XXL because it all seems to be sized for the Schleck brothers
So a L would be the size in this it seems?

Hi there and thank you for your question. If you plan on only wearing a baselayer, the large will work, it is snug on me, but as I have dropped 5 pounds and I am at 180, it is a much truer fit, and the more i wear it, the more I feel it is sized for 175-180ish. If you plan on wearing anything aside from a baselayer, I would go up to an XL. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks!

Scott, what is your chest size? Seems like I’m the same weight, but I wear a 40R jacket/blazer. I’m more concerned about the Large having too narrow shoulders than the waistline fit.

Hi Paul, my chest measures at 41" and I am still at 180lbs. If you plan on wearing anything more than a base layer, maybe go up a size, but the shoulder width hasn't been an issue for myself.
