Smartly adjusts to lighting outside.
Pair the Varia UT800 Smart Headlight with a Garmin Edge head unit for automatic adjustments to the ambient lighting outside, projecting the brightest beam on the darkest of nights and lowering its beam to save battery life at brighter dawn and dusk hours. Not only does it adjust its beam intensity to the lighting outside, but it also matches the light beam to your current speed and ride profile to save battery life at lower speeds with a lower beam and project more light when it's needed at higher velocities.
Five different lighting modes give you a wide array of beams for numerous ride types, meaning the Varia UT800 is great for daily commutes, long-distance road rides, and fast-paced trail rides after dark. Two different packages give you a bar/stem mount for road rides or a helmet-based mount for trail riding after dark. The rechargeable battery delivers approximately 1.5 hours of power at full blast of 800 lumens, lasting six hours on its lower setting for better battery life.
- 800-lumen headlight smartly adjusts to ambient lighting
- Adjusts to lighting outside with Garmin Edge computers
- Cree LED projects a beam with 270 degrees of visibility
- Five settings: high, medium, low, day flash, night flash
- Trail package mounts to helmet for mountain biking
- Road package mounts to bar and stem for road cycling
- Meets IPX-7 waterproofing standards (fully submersible)
- Rechargeable battery lasts 1.5 hours on highest setting

Great Light for My Needs
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
My weekday training rides are done pre-dawn most days, so I need a good light. I've used Nite-Rider and Light & Motion over the years happily. Then I bought a Cannondale SystemSix, with bespoke aero bars. There is no place to mount a light except the bottom of the computer bracket. So I ordered the UT800. It twists on and off in just a second, never shifts or slips, and can easily be moved to our tandem. It provides plenty of light to see and be seen. Running it one step below full power I get 2-3 hours of steady use or in blink mode during the day I get more. So why not 5 stars? I tried it in paired mode with my 520 twice, then unpaired it. At 15 mph it switches to full brightness, which gobbles up battery life. Then the second day I had it paired it decided it only wanted to blink. It didn't care what I wanted. So I unpaired it and went back to manual mode, which works great. The only problem is that there is no way to know how much battery life is left, so I just charge it after every couple of rides and don't worry about it.

Garmin Varia UT 800 first impression
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Even though I read the reviews I decided to buy this light. Mostly for winter riding or riding in places like the Blue Ridge Parkway that have tunnels that have no lighting. Well the reviews that state "Short Battery Life" are true. I used it 22 miles on a Saturday...and then on the next ride... at 15 miles... I received a Low Battery warning. ALREADY! I was running it connected to my 520 plus so it could do it`s thing. It`s lighting capabilities are impressive... But if it is only good for maybe a 50 mile ride... this light is worthless....!

Perfect Light
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- True to size
I own a garmin computer and this light syncs with it so it knows how fast I’m going and light brightness changes with the speed. If I stop it also stops working until I move again. I like the safety aspect of having 800 lumens let drivers know I’m coming specially during the day. Since I bought the first light I have purchased 3 more for family members. Very pleased with it.

I have a Canyon Ultimate CFX with a CP10 aero cockpit (combined bar and stem). Does the package for this product include a mount that will work with aero shaped bars or do I need to order a separate attachment?

Hi Brian, The clamp that comes with the headlight will most likely not fin on your aero bars. However if you have a mount on your bike already that has a way to mount a gopro or something similar you may be able to attach it directly to that.

Brighter Than The Rest
- Familiarity:

Replaced my Trek Flare with this Garmin light. It is simply more versatile and bright. I only use it as a day time running light, and it is obviously effective because I always see the flash reflecting off of road signs when I'm riding. Kind of heavy, but the guild is super solid. Also has different brightness settings for use as a headlight for riding and commuting at dusk, damn, or in the dark. Syncs to Garmin Edge for auto start/stop. The mount puts it right under your computer out in front of the bike. Light mounts easily and very securely to the mount. I don't ride without it.

What is involved in taking the light off the bike to charge it? Does the light snap into and out of the mount? Or do you need to use a screwdriver to remove the light from the GoPro mount?

Hey, John W. I have this same light, and have ridden with it as a DRL for the last couple of years. It’s a quarter-turn mount, just like a Garmin computer. Couldn’t be easier!
