    Really amazing

I've put it through the wringer

I ride rural roads, often by myself. I hate that feeling when a car passes you that you just didn’t know was there. That has not happened since I got the Varia radar. It picks up every car & motorcycle approaching from the rear. Sometimes b/c of wind or road noise I don’t hear the beep, maybe a quarter of the time, but it was easy to get into the habit of glancing at the screen regularly. It does have some limitations on rollers. It will lose a car behind a hill, but b/c it already let me know the car is there, it’s not a big problem. In the hills I can usually hear a car before the radar “sees” it, but on the flats it lets me know a car is back there way before I can hear it. I definitely feel way safer out there on the roads.

    Almost Essential

    I've used it several times

I've owned the Varia radar for two weeks now and used it almost daily. I've come to believe it to be an almost essential piece of road cycling equipment, as least as far my rides. My rides are almost all small town and rural rides. I'm not sure how useful it would be in an urban seeting. Seems to me it would going off all the time. Maybe that would be useful; maybe not. The Varia gives me an audible warning that a car (or motorcycle) is behind me. I get the warning before I can hear the vehicle (always) and usually before I can see it in my rear-view mirrors. If the vehicle has its lights on, I can sometimes see it in the mirrors, but not always. The radar also tells me how many cars are coming up from behind me. What I Like: Easy to mount, long battery life, increased awareness of overtaking traffic. No issues with it moving around on the crappy roads in my part of the world. What I don't like: It does pick up bikes sometimes. I've not ridden in a pack yet, so I can't tell you how it performs there. It ignores anything not moving at least 15 mph, but bikes moving faster than that are detected. Sometimes. That doesn't keep the unit from still detecting cars, though. Bottom line: In my mind, this doesn't replace mirrors or using your ears and glancing behind, but it adds a whole 'nother layer of safety. The warning occurs soon enough so that you can more safely ride towards the center of your lane... away from road debris and where you are more likely to be seen... and have ample time to move over to the edge of the road. No more thinking one car is passing you and getting startled when it is two. No more

Will the tail light mount to an aero seat post/mast or to the seat rails themselves in such a manner that it stays properly aligned? Thanks,

Will work on aero bikes but you may need the larger rubber bands sold separately? I used a band from another device to mount to the frame below the seat post.

Does the tail light have to be mounted on the seat post? I have a bag there and would like to keep it in it’s place, if possible... thank you
