Carbon G. Chrono Shoe

Gaerne might not be the first name that comes to mind when seeking out some high-end cycling shoes, but it should. Founded in Italy in 1962 by Ernesto Gazzola, Gaerne still builds shoes in the old world way using the skills and traditions of expert craftsmen and are constructed using modern materials. Its renowned durability, high quality, and technical innovation have made it a favorite among the fastest riders in the peloton and if you're looking for a footwear upgrade, check out its Carbon G. Chrono Shoe.

Gaerne sweats the smallest details in its shoe design, knowing that any slight, initial discomfort is magnified 5 hours into a ride. For the closure, it uses a pair of BOA Li2 dials for durability and the comfort of zero pressure points. The micro-adjustable BOA reels and stainless steel cables offer a more uniform closure and greater air circulation at the front of the foot.

Speaking of breathability, the upper is crafted of a soft microfiber with laser-drillings. The anatomical tongue is also perforated giving the shoe excellent ventilation on summer rides. To ensure efficient pedaling, Gaerne uses its Tarsal Support System ensuring the ideal position of the foot inside the shoe, for a rounder and more powerful pedal stroke. It's all-new integrated anti-slip heel-cup anchors the heel in place and will not deform or weaken over time. It claims that this anti-tendonitis form allows for the best foot stability and control. For the footbed, Gaerne uses an anatomic EPS Comfort Insole with tarsal area support for greater comfort and pedaling efficiency. Like the upper, the insole is perforated for maximum breathability.

Down below, the G. Chrono uses its Lightweight EPS Full Carbon Sole that achieves a 12.0 (its highest) on the stiffness scale. Both ultra-light and thin, your foot sits close to the pedal spindle and the carbon fiber weave is optimized to transmit every watt of power into the pedals. It's also designed to improve foot stability thanks to its shape in the plantar arch area. Four air vents improve airflow and improve breathability inside the shoe. And to keep you from sliding on slippery café floors, the sole has an anti-slip insert at the toe and a replaceable heel pad. Compared to its previous soles, the cleat position options have been increased by 9mm and an alignment scale printed on the sole allows you to set up the exact position of the cleat.

Runs very narrow in the forefoot

I purchased these based on a number of reviews I have read and have heard nothing but good things about the shoe and the company. Unfortunately for me the shoe runs very narrow in the forefoot! Much narrower then a Sidi, and I have worn a lot of Sidi's---I thought about keeping them thinking they would probably stretch out, but when I look at them you can see how narrow the front of the shoe is so back they go. I will most likely purchase another pair of Sidi's since they fit so well. Construction and finish are just what you would expect and the Boa system is really smooth and seems to pull evenly across the foot. I have the winter version of this shoe and it runs wider, has more volume and fits my foot incredably well! If you don't need a lot of room up front this is a go to shoe!
