Pro Rugged Knee Pad

Riding technical trails means getting amongst the trees and rocks alongside the singletrack. The G-Form Pro Rugged Knee Guard is durable enough to handle the fly-by from the oak branch and the skid on sandstone, so you can escape unscathed with only the stories to tell. G-Form’s unique SmartFlex padding remains flexible until impact, when it stiffens, maintaining mobility and comfort while pedaling. The pad’s sleeve is a double-knit compression fabric, which both protects and helps wick moisture to keep you comfortable even in warmer temperatures. A wide top gripper with adjustable strap ensures a precise fit and prevents the pad from slipping down as you ride.

  • G-Form’s most durable mountain bike knee pad to date
  • Armortex bonded outer fabric resists tearing or catching
  • SmartFlex padding remains malleable until impact for greater comfort
  • Hook-and-loop upper strap keeps pad in place
  • Mesh backing vents heat while pedaling

Good so far.

I've used it several times

I've riding mountain bikes for 32 years, concentrating mostly on XC racing. Now that I've retired to the gnarlier trails of the Pisgah in Western NC, and because the body doesn't heal at 62 like it did at 32, I thought it was time to finally invest in some body armor. This is one of those products that when first developed and offered to the market was not very good. Heavy, ill-fitting, and difficult to keep in place. But product innovation and improvement advanced rapidly, and there are now a number of worthy brands to consider. I spent way too much time ruminating over reviews before deciding on the new G-Form Rugged, both the knee and elbow pads. I didn't want something too heavy, but I also didn't want merely the abrasion resistance of the ultra-light pads. Reviews on previous G-Form offerings were mixed, but those on their newest Rugged model were much better. Aesthetically, I think their muted look is much better than their glossy "Star Wars-like" predecessors. The fit chart was spot-on for me, and most importantly, they stay in place! The key is to get the lower cuff on the knee pad slightly above the thickest part of your calf. Then they will not slide down. What remains to be seen is just how durable these prove to be. Other reviewers have been disappointed with durability. Because of that, I have been extra-conscious of how I treat when putting on and removing. And though I too ride flat pedals, I have yet to snag them on a pedal. Also, have not yet thrown them in washer, which is probably even more abusive than the trails. So for my initial impressions, I am giving these a five star rating; however, that may be subject to change if they don't hold up for a season or two.

Not great for flat pedals

If you ride flat pedals with kinda sharp studs you will ruin these pads. It's ashame that the back of the leg material is so fragile because they are super comfortable and stay in place all day. I understand that its hard to make something durable but also light and breathable. I am disappointed that the "armortex" material has also torn just as easily. I will continue to sew and mend these pads as long as I can but I will not be replacing them with the same pad in the future which stinks because they really are the most comfortable knee pad I've worn.

Great insight, was hoping these wouldn't have this problem. My X2s did the same thing.
