The best of both styles

Handlebars have run the gamut of shapes from ergo, to round to a composite of the two. The FSA Energy Compact takes the shallow drop that has become popular and mated it to a flattened bar top to provide additional hand positioning options.

FSA championed the concept of the wing-style handlebar years ago. They provided riders with the first-ever alternative to the traditional round shape of bar tops. The flattened cross section nicely molded to the shape of loose fists—exactly what many of us have when we climb with our hands on the tops. At a 125mm drop and 80mm reach with round drops, you can easily find your sweet spot in the drops without having to force your hands to conform to the flat area of an anatomic drop.

The Energy Compact is made from double-butted, tapered, shot-peened, and anodized aluminum. The center clamping section is purposely wide, at 120mm, so that you'll be able to clamp on accessories, like aero bars. They come in a 31.8mm clamp only and are available in 40, 42, and 44cm measured center to center.

  • Flat tops
  • Ergonomically-shaped drop section
  • Mid-shallow drop
  • Wide center clamping section

My Favorite Bars

These just work. Light, great drop and stiff as they need to be. No need to pay more for anything else.

    My favorite bars

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used all kinds of bars over the years, including the anatomic-types, which I generally dislike. These bars are the most comfortable I've used, and between the shallow drop and short reach, are perfect for me. I normally ride a 42cm bar, but bought these in a 44cm since the tops are 42cm and they flare out to 44cm at the drops. Not the lightest bars on the market, but who cares.

    Unanswered Question

Is this the alternative to the former aluminum version of the FSA SL-K which is now a carbon/Kevlar blend? The design/specs seem similar.

    The perfect bars

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The bike I ride came with FSA Vero Compact bars, which are an ergo design. I wanted something closer to a classic bend, with a good flat space at the ends of the drops. I saw the FSA Energy Compact bars on Alex Howes' bike (Team Cannondale-Garmin) and thought they would be the best shape for me. Then I saw on VeloNews the name of them, and that they were aluminum so I would actually be able to justify the cost.
They are the perfect shape, and I have been shopping for 18 months.

for width of the bar with 4degree sweep, how should they be measured?

As I understand it these bars are measured at the ends, so a size 44 is more like a 42/43 at the hoods.

Was this bar formerly known as the FSA Wing Pro Compact??

I'm pretty sure it's the same bar as the wing pro......which I have.............

In my opinion these are the best bars EVER (that i have ever tired)!!!! A little history, i have ridden compact Pro PLT, compact Giant Carbon, compact Felt bars, standard Control Tech, standard Pro PLT, and the FSA Compact is still the best. A little reasoning, short reach means easier transition from top to hood to drops and allows a longer stem which aesthetic looks pro/cool, compact drop allows me to be in the drops longer but still reach the brakes and shifters super easy and comfortable with other company's compact handlebars still giving me a hard time braking and shifting in the drops, and the flat tops are just more comfortable for me. these are the win all end all handlebars to me, and possibly to you its worth at least trying.
