Trauma free rebuild

Size Bought
October 2020

The rebuild on a 2001 vintage Fox Float rear shock, with the help of this video went well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtE6wlO_Jtk I did have to find another top O ring at Lowe's, but the shock is pretty old. It now works perfectly, so despite a minor hiccough, I would recommend the rebuild kit.

Works, but not sure how well tbh

I've used it several times

True to size

Great offering by Backcountry, my problem is with the product and Fox. Note if you are trying to DIY your suspension maintenance: there are absolutely no instructions whatsoever, and none I could find online from Fox (I have a Float CTD DRCV rear shock, 2014 Trek Remedy8 model); you will have to rely on video tutorials for general Float models, which are all different, but the real challenge is that it can be very stressful and difficult to decipher specific parts and there placement. Make sure you do your research, then keep all of your parts organized and noted when deconstructing your Float and checking/cleaning/replacing parts and seals in your shock. Good luck!

Set up for the big hits?

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

My friend was examining my bike after unloading and commented "shock set up for the big hits, huh?" Later I realized he was saying my suspension was pretty firm. Actually, it was time for some overdue maintenance. New seal kit later and the suspension was as supple as it should be.

Made my bike ride like new!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Didn't realize how important this service was. Purchased this seal kit and had a good friend assist in the rebuild. Shock has zero fluid left in it and after replacing seals and adding lube the bike rides better than ever. This is a costly repair in a shop, so buy the seal kit here and get someone to help you and save some cash!

Why would you not do this?

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

It takes me less than a half hour to replace the air can seals in my fox shocks, and there is a noticeable difference in the ride quality of the rear suspension after it is changed. You wouldn't run your car without an oil change would you?

Highly Recommended

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I used to think the super short service intervals on suspension was a load of garbage. Then I started actually doing them, and my god it makes your bike ride incredible! The longer you put off doing it, the more you'll kick yourself once you do and see the difference it makes. Easy to do at home if you are comfortable with that, just follow instructions and take your time.
