Steep descents to backcountry epics.
We're guessing you're probably well aware of FOX's dominance on the suspension market, especially with the 36 Float leading the charge everywhere from hyper-technical descents to long rides across formidable alpine ranges. Even with its dominance in all-mountain riding and enduro racing, the engineers at FOX sought to update the 36 Float 29 160 3Pos-Adj FIT4 Fork (51mm Rake) with greater sensitivity to small bumps while retaining the legendary stiffness that's made it the leading all-mountain fork on the market. To achieve this greater sensitivity, FOX added their EVOL technology borrowed from rear shocks. EVOL technology gives extra volume to the negative air spring, making the fork more supple off-the-top when you're riding over small bumps and terrain inconsistencies on the trail.
36-millimeter stanchions retain a rock-solid chassis when you're descending at high speeds over rowdy sections of trail, meaning you'll hold you line without torsional forces bucking you off-balance. The stanchions are upgraded with a Kashima coating for greater sensitivity, as well as increased durability when you're thrashing this fork on a regular basis.
The fork's Fit4 damper uses a slightly revised tune with a reconfigured shim stack making it all the more sensitive to light inputs and small bumps. Another benefit of this reconfigured design, it's now easier than ever to swap volume spacers without messing with a seal. This is a great feature, as many riders on the 36 Float desire added progressiveness to prevent bottoming out or an overly harsh feel on bigger hits.
This particular version of the 36 Float gets a Fit4 damper with 3-position adjust, giving you the option of running it Open, Medium, or Firm. In Open mode, you'll find 22 clicks of low-speed compression damping, which is great for dialing in its feel to your exact liking. Medium adds a bit firmer feel on smooth trail and long climbs without it being fully locked out. Firm acts as a practical lock-out for long slogs up fire roads where it's best to have minimal movement in the fork.
