The Arione family receives its new leader.
It doesn't get much lighter than 135g. Sure, there are saddles out there claiming lower weights, but we'd argue that they weren't built with the same innovative and purposeful construction as Fi'zi:k's new Arione 00. After all, numbers on the scale are one thing, but when it really comes down to it, the boss of the Arione family was engineered to deliver real-world results for the most demanding racing cyclists on the planet.
At the heart of the Arione 00 is its one-piece Mobius carbon rail construction. This is a braided carbon weave that was filled with unidirectional fibers for exceptional strength and road-tuned dampening. Fi'zi:k took the braided Mobius platform and wrapped a rough carbon cloth material around the rails' clamping zones, ensuring both a secure bond between the rails and clamp, and to increase overall durability. The Mobius differs from the carbon braided rails found in Fi'zi:k's other saddles in that -- besides its new one-piece construction -- it was built with flatter sections on both sides of the clamping zone. In addition to reducing weight, these flat areas provide more vertical compliance than round rails, further increasing your comfort through the subtle flex they provide.
Similar to the R1 and other Arione variants, the 00 retains the 'Snake' profile. For some background, Fi'zi:k divides its saddles into three shape categories for varying flexibility -- it calls this its Spine Concept. Fi'zi:k refers to each level of flexibility as Snake, Chameleon, and Bull, with the serpent being the most limber and the ox intended for more muscular riders. With this flexibility scale, Fi'zi:k is able to gauge flexibility and the body's correlating pressure zones in order to create saddles with appropriate support and specifically tuned flex characteristics.
Based off of the Snake's flexible spine attribution, the sit bones manage most of the body's weight, with little pressure on the genital area. Accordingly, for the Arione 00, Fi'zi:k applied both its Wing Flex and Twin Flex technologies to the saddle's narrow composite carbon shell. The Wing Flex shell was engineered to flex downward in areas where the inner thighs contact the saddle. This allows more efficient pedaling, as the legs maintain a full range of motion. When combined with the Arione's extended length, you are able to utilize the entire surface of the perch to find the most ideal riding positions. Many pros are drawn to this feature alone, positioning themselves up on the long nose while digging into climbs, and then settling back into the pocket when necessary. This central positioning on the saddle is also where you'll benefit from the Twin Flex technology. In addition to the flexible sides, Fi'zi:k also built the saddle's shell with central channel composed of carbon and Kevlar woven fibers. This allows the center of the shell to flex slightly downward, providing a 'hammock-like' sweet spot area for pressure distribution of soft tissue and pudental artery and nerve areas.
Because the Arione 00's carbon shell was engineered to manage the majority of your body's weight and pressure distribution, the top layer of padding is minimal. Fi'zi:k finished off the marquee Arione 00 by sewing its signature Microtex fabric to the saddle's shell. Several small perforations on the sides ensure breathability and comfort.
The Fi'zi:k Arione 00 is available in the colors Black and White.

Nice stile, confortable and light
The New Benchmark
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Generally speaking, Fizik saddles are some of the best out there; most people can enjoy even their models below the century mark. The standard Arione has been a staple in the pro peloton, and a favorite of those that spend upward of 30 hours/week on their bikes. The Arione 00 is an improvement upon all of the others in so many ways.
The most obvious advantage to dropping the extra coin on this bit of bling is an incredibly light, comfortable, and good looking saddle.
The detail that most don't realize is that the shell of the saddle is built entirely out of super-stiff, strong, and light carbon fiber. This translates into two great features:
1. Because the saddle shell does not flex very much, it provides superb support for your ischial tuberosities (sit bones), which helps to keep you from sitting on your soft tissues and causing nerve damage and/or blood flow stoppage (similar idea to a cut-out, but with more surface area contact)
2: This saddle will last forever! The first thing to wear out on a saddle is usually not the foam, gel, cover or any of the padding; it is in fact the saddle shell. By having a complete carbon fiber shell, it will take a very, very long time for this one to wear out. I typically run through saddles with composite shells in a few months; I have had this one for over a year with no sign of stopping in sight.
All in all, one of the best saddles, if not the best saddle I have ever used.
