Who clips in these days?

Some like to attract attention with their personal stylings, and for them, there's the Blue Zebra. However, if you like to let your riding tell your tale, then the Five Ten Freerider Shoe in black/grey will do the trick. The understated colors will help you keep a low profile, that is, until you tailwhip over the big double at your local dirt jump spot and stick the pedals for a perfect landing.

Five Ten's Stealth Rubber was developed for rock climbing shoes. As such, it has excellent gription which makes it super easy to keep your feet on the pedals. Just think, no shinburger for dinner... again. It's also super durable. It had to be tough for climbing shoes to suffer the wear and tear from hard granite cliffs for days on end. The Freerider Shoes may just have a tougher job. They have to endure the prodding from the metal spikes on your pedals all day, but the Stealth Rubber can take it. Five Ten Stealth Rubber soles will outlast the gum rubber sole on a conventional skate shoe every time and stick better to your pedals all the while.

The Freerider Shoe has all the style that you want and the bomber sole that you need to land big tricks without blowing your feet. The grey panels on the upper are made of brushed nubuck leather. The toe box is reinforced to provide added protection if you lose it in mid-air. And one of the coolest details is the California license plate on the back of the heel.

The Five Ten Freerider Shoe is available in Black/Grey, Red/Black, Red/Grey, and Orange/Grey and comes in half sizes from 4 - 12  and whole sizes 13 and 14.

  • Nubuck leather uppers with reinforced toe box
  • Stealth Rubber soles

Great Shoes !

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 10 mens

I love these shoes and the price was awesome !

Awesome shoe!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Very stiff sole with really sticky rubber! Perfect for long downhills. Wear size 10us/43eu in all other street, running, and approach shoe bit wear a 9.5 in these.

Do these shoes work well for everyday use other than biking?

Yes I use them for both training on pavement and dirt trails. They are better quality tan any shoe I have purchased for the money.

Great shoe!!!! LOVE!!!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I just returned from cycling in Vietnam and Cambodia where I used these shoes. I always ride road bikes and am clipped in But for this trip and the rough and dirt roads, and even maneuvering city traffic,I needed to be unclipped. The 510's were awesome in every condition. City, trails dirt, rain...and most important I rode with confidence. Thanks to the great people at Backcountry for your wise advice on this and other equipment.

Great grip and durable.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Shoes have great grip and are nice for after ride activities as well. I size down 1/2 a size than normal shoes but I like my bike shoes a touch tighter than my regular sneakers.

Great grips and color choices

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Still breaking these in but so far they have been great - good grip but still good for casual use as well

Tried and True

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

5.10 crushes it in the flats department. I bought these as a gift and thanks to the new awesome colorways, totally nailed it. My boyfriend (and me as well) will never ride with anything but these, have bought several 5.10's and keep coming back. The control and confidence you get while riding is a huge task for any piece of gear, and these definitely live up to the challenge!

Function and fashion-

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The color options are epic on these and they look like good casual skate shoes we're all used to. I'm new to mtb shoes but 5.10 stealth rubber is an easy go-to pick for me with climbing shoes. Upgrading from riding in hiking boots is honestly what I'm most excited about.

Need a few more pairs!

These shoes are terrific for anyone learning to ride mountain bikes, picking up new skills, or transitioning from clipless to flats (like me!). With the Stealth rubber and right pedal combo, you won't even notice the difference between clipless and flats anymore. These are considered to be a bit more of an introductory flats shoe since they're not as stiff, but that's a HUGE advantage in learning new tricks and getting comfortable with getting air and not flying off the pedals. With the soft sole, not only can you feel the pedals under your feet, but you can also wrap your feet around the pedals for extra grip, pump, and drive on your next ride. With super wide feet, it took a few rides to break these shoes in, but now they're so dreamy. I wouldn't mind buying a few more pairs just for kicking around!

Great mountain bike shoe! Why? Because it's soft sole grips the platform pedals and they stay put! Even going over bumps and jumps the shoes stay on the pedals which is really nice when riding over roots, rock gardens and pedaling uphill sections of the trail that are smooth or rough- doesn't matter they stay put! These shoes I consider a important piece of safety equipment just like having the right tires are for your bike. Important to have shoes that stay on the pedals.

great grip, super sticky

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

What a great pair of shoes, fits pretty well. I'm using them with:
I have no complain at all

Sticky grip and super durable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 9.0

These things grip true mountain bike flat pedals like nobody's business. I had been riding clip pedals for about 10 years, and I decided to give flats a try. Combined with some good aggressive flat pedals (Deity Decoys) I feel completely confident that I will not slip a pedal. Going to flats will also improve your handling skills, since you cant cheat and use your pedals to pull up on the bike.

The one nitpick I have is they run pretty wide, and I have narrow feet, so I have to cinch the laces down pretty tight. Five Ten, please make a narrow width version of this shoe!!

Great Gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these as a gift because 5.10 sets the standard in grip and stability for a flat show. The purchase was a repeat, and the upgrade was worth it. The grip pattern has changed slightly from older models, potentially making an almost perfect product even better. Beyond that, the new pair appear to be every bit as durable as the old pair (arguably more stylish as well), which is what I was hoping for and expecting out of a great brand like 5.10. All around great gift that seems to work for most people who try them!

pillows for my footsies

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These have been a dream since i picked them up. I recently picked up a new santa cruz whip and felt i needed some new rubber to connect to them. The fit is on point with my normal skate/street shoes and this model specifically have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

I have not had any pedal slips and these have done an amazing job keeping my feet protected from all the kick up !

will these work with platform pedals that don't have pins in them?

Hi AM,

They will work fine with pedals without pins. You will get more grip with the shoe and pedal if the pedals aren't a smooth surface though. Feel free to give us a call at 888-276-7130 if you have further questions!

Hi. Just wondering is the men's size 5.5 equal to euro size 37.5? From size chart not showing men's shoes have sizes smaller than us6.

Hi Frank,

Yes, a US men's 5.5 will be equal to a Euro 37.5.
