The Five Ten Women's Freerider Contact Women's Shoes build on the well-loved Freerider with a slightly more casual styling and even grippier sole for confident purchase on the pedals. Five Ten's Contact Outsole features super grippy Stealth Mi6 rubber under the ball of the foot for treadless, secure pedal grip and vibration damping over the roughest trails.

A stiff midsole provides just the right amount of support while still remaining walkable, and a reinforced toe cap provides extra protection for your feet. The durable synthetic upper resists abrasion while mesh paneling provides cooling ventilation while you rock the park, cruise the DH circuit, or clean lines across all manner of all-mountain riding.

  • A casually styled freeride shoe
  • Grippy outsole for confident pedal contact
  • Supportive midsole balances stiffness and walkability
  • Reinforced toe cap for extra protection
  • Abrasion-resistant upper with ventilated panels

Radness

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I tried these at the same time as the Freerider Pro and have been using the Freerider Canvas for about a year already.

These are rad, I almost kept them, but needed to make a decision between these and the Pro, so I went with the ultra dirt and water shedding Pro version. If money were no object I would keep these, too!

9.5 is my usual shoe size, and these seemed to fit great in the 9.5 for me.

Better grip than the Freerider

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I got these for my wife who was looking for a replacement for her regular Five Ten Freeriders. She says these shoes grip the pedals better than the regular Freerider shoes. The toe protection is a super nice feature! These seem to be a bit lower volume shoe than the Freerider but run similar in length. Overall very satisfied with the purchase.

Best flat pedal shoes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 9.5

This is my second pair of the Freeriders. They are, as advertised, the best shoes to use with flat pedals. With other shoes my feet always slipped off the pedals but with these they stick like glue. Gives me much more confidence at high cadence, descending hills or just stepping on the gas. I measure to a 8.5 in dress shoes but got these in a 9.5 to accommodate an orthotic.

Solid

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 9.5

I have the Freerider, but wanted a little stiffer shoe. The Contact is just a little bit stiffer. It's more streamlined as well. It's not as bulky. The toes are more protected with these as well, which I very much appreciate. I find them really comfortable and breathable.

The sole is grippy, of course. I like the idea of the flat rubber section of the sole, for proper contact on the pedals. But, I'm not sure I can actually tell the difference. Either way, this is a comfortable and responsive shoe.

I sized up half a size in these. I'm normally a size 9.0. Maybe it's on account of the stiffer toe, but the 9.5 is a good fit, especially for long rides.

Awesome shoes

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Bought these as a gift! There are awesome shoes. It's hard to beat Five Ten when you're looking for mountain bike shoes for riding flat pedals. The Freerider Contact are a low profile version of their original Freerider shoes. They generally fit true to size and have pretty generous width in the toe box. So far the durability has been good.

Sick Shoes

Once you wear a pair of Five Ten shoes you will never use anything else. The soles are really grippy which makes a huge difference when riding. The sizing is a little on the smaller size, may want to go up a half size. The shock green/onyx color looks sweet also.

    SO STICKY!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6.5

I was told these shoes would be a game changer when it comes to riding bikes. and I have to say, I agree! I'm not comfortable with clipping in quite yet so to be able to have shoes that essentially gives you the same feeling, but with freedom, is awesome! The rubber is so sticky and adheres to my pedals with no problem. The shoe itself is really comfortable! I'm normally a size 7 but i actually went with a 6.5 in these shoes.

    Five Ten Freerider Contact Shoe

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 5.5

I just started mountain biking and was told I should invest in proper shoes for my flat pedals as they provide extra stick and support for your feet. I couldn't agree more that I felt better gripping on the pedals from these than normal sneakers. The shoes were pretty lightweight yet they feel sturdy in their construction. I don't love the look of them but otherwise they're a great shoe.

    Stitching hurts my toes

Stitching on these shoes hurts my toes a lot after just 15-20 minutes ride. The stitches are not covered by anything inside the shoe and the thread is very thick. I tried different socks, I hoped that these shoes will break in or I will get used to them. Alas, they still hurt a lot and it's too late to return them. I like everything else about them, but I can't use them. $150 experiment :(

Great! Big feet, needed to size up.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: 11

Only about 15 miles of riding in on these but so far very happy. One quick note on sizing, they seem to be reviewed as true to size across the interwebs, but I needed to go up a full size. I wear a women's 10 consistently, typically a 41 euro; I tried 10 and 10.5 which were both too short and ended up with a women's 11 in this shoe. Touch roomy in the toe but the 10.5 was too tight.

Take your riding to the next level

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7.5

I've never owned true mountain biking shoes, used to use trail running shoes, so I did some research and asked friends and this brand came highly recommended. I agree with the other reviews, I feel great riding in these - they are super sticky on flat pedals (assuming you've upgraded to pedals with plastic / metal pegs - which I 100% recommend if you are on flats!) and make me so much more confident riding uphill and stable going downhill. Love the fit and style, they are super comfortable and I don't feel embarrassed wearing these post ride to grab a bite / beers with friends.

      Fantastic

      The 6th pair.
I have owned FiveTen shoes since they first hit the market with the original impact. I have had Karvers, Hellcats, Kestrel Lace, Freeriders, and now I bought these for my girlfriend after her parents have been riding these shoes. Simply the best flat pedal shoe you can buy!

      Love this shoe

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7

Love this shoe! The stiff sole distributes the peddling energy so I feel more power going uphill. The sticky bottom keeps the shoe from bumping off the pedal. This shoe has improved my riding.

True to size, sticky, ride changer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7.5

Love these shoes! I sized up as my feets swell on long rides. The bottom sticks to my peg pedals well and LOVE them on the dh. Really helps with balance since the bottom is so stiff. I'm not a super aggressive ride but I definitely notice a difference in my riding since purchasing these, and so do my shins :)

freeriders are stiff, breath, & sticky!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 8

After putting these through a few 25+ mile up and down hill rides, I completely agree with the other reviews - these are sticky, stay in place, breath well, and all around, they function very well! They fit true to size too.

So sticky, feels like you're clipped in

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

After a year of hitting my shins on sharp pedal edges, I was fed up and finally made the switch to the FiveTen Stealth rubber MTB shoes - they ROCK. I primarily ride DH and Enduro trails around Utah and haven't hit my shins ONCE since purchasing these. They are super stiff, which is rad for DH, plus they breath well even with merino wool socks! These rock, I'll never go back to sneakers. :)

So sticky, feels like you're clipped in

Finally, women's gear that's not pink

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 7.5

I purchased the shoes at the beginning of the summer to use for mountain biking. They have been amazing! They stay in great contact with the spikes on pedals. My feet never come off the pedals and the sticky soles definitely grip is well. The shoes are comfortable keeping soles of my feet from getting sore on the dh. Also, the stiff platform really helps. I did go a size up but it's not really necessary, very true to size. Also, thank you 5.10 for making gal gear that's not f$&@ing pink!!!

      Unanswered Question

Does anyone know if the soles in these Freerider Contact are any stiffer than the Freerider Canvas?

      Sticky!

I picked these up for wife who rides flat pedals. Here is what she has to say:
Very happy with these babies! Since I'm relatively new to the sport I wanted to start out with flat pedals so I could get comfortable with riding before worrying about my feet being clipped in. These shoes are very grippy and I definitely don't have any worry about my feet slipping, which gives me one less thing to worry about. The sole is stiff enough to provide ample support while riding, yet they are perfectly fine to walk in as well. There's a nice balance between the thick upper for protection and mesh areas for ventilation, and although my feet do get a bit warm they don't get as hot as expected.
