Terra Artica X2 Cycling Shoe

Keep your toes toasty as you cruise along frozen trails in these Fi'zi:k winter mountain bike shoes. The waterproof eVent membrane keeps the elements from penetrating from the outside, but at the same time uses Direct Venting technology to remain breathable from the inside so you feet don't overheat or get clammy. Plus, the Artica X2's maintain a lower profile than bulky winter riding boots despite having a cozy fleece liner.

In addition to the membrane and fleece liner, the uppers are constructed with a tough ripstop exterior with additional reinforcements along the toecap, heel, and side areas to keep them from tearing and ripping as you rack up your cold-weather miles. A BOA-controlled closure ensures a quick and accurate fit, while the zippered ankle cuff keeps the worst of the weather out.

The X2 outsole is engineered with optimal stiffness to ensure efficient pedaling on-the-bike and flexible comfort when walking off-the-bike. It features Vibram Megagrip rubber tread that provides confident footing on your clipless pedals, along with stable traction when you're hiking on frozen soil or slippery rocks and roots.

Challenging but Worth It

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have been riding in these in Alaska for a few seasons now. They are very good at making the transition between seasons. As others commented they are not easy to get on BUT I bought a boot horn for $8 and it solved the issue well enough to make quicker work of it. On sale they are great riding shoes to take one in/out of winter. The benefit is they wear like proper cycling shoes vs heavier boots with cleats.

As with other reviews, the first few rides with this shoe the biggest workout was getting them on. You need a shoehorn and a narrow foot. Once on, they are comfortable although temperature range I'd only go to lower 30s. I used them on several 90+ minute rides in 20sº F and finished with numb feet.

A lovely shoe with one fatal design flaw

Can’t get your feet into the shoe! No matter how much you loosen the BOA. I even broke my shoehorn trying to fit them on. Too bad — this shoe looked to be a winner.

impossible to put on

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I was really hoping these would be great winter biking shoes. Problem is they are impossible to put on. I spent over 20 minutes just trying to figure it out with no luck. A biking shoe should never be that difficult to put on. Too bad - they had great promise.
