Description

Cyrano R3 Snake Handlebar

Not everyone has the same amount of spine flexibility, and Fi'zi:k has utilized different levels of flex to differentiate its saddles into categories. Recently, Fi'zi:k has extended its thinking about how the spine relates to a bicycle's cockpit. The Cyrano is a series of handlebars and components that works in conjunction with saddle choice to create the optimal riding position. If you're extremely flexible, the Cyrano R3 Snake Handlebar is the ideal shape for you.

The Cyrano R3 Snake is virtually identical to its mate, the R1. The difference is that while the R1 is carbon fiber, the R3 is more economical aluminum Ergal. Yes, it weighs about 40 grams more than the R1, but for riders who like the security of aluminum versus the weight savings of carbon, it's ideal. The Cyrano R3 is available in four widths: 400mm, 420mm, 440mm, and 460mm. These widths accommodate a wide variety of riders. The reach is 80mm in the 400mm and 85 in the other three sizes, and the drop ranges from 130mm in the 400mm version, to 140mm in the three wider bars.

The reach and drop measurements sound similar to other handlebars. So, what makes this bar ideal for a rider classified as a Snake? The shape of the drop. The nature of the highly flexible Snake means that they are able to reach almost any position in a traditional rounded drop handlebar. Therefore, the bend is almost a full 180-degree bend versus the more abrupt or shallower bends of the Chameleon or Bull handlebar.

The Cyrano R3 Handlebar weighs roughly 245 grams for the 420mm bar. It comes in four sizes from 400mm to 460mm and in the color Black.

  • Fizik's value-packed alloy handlebar for flexible riders
  • Ergal aluminum alloy keeps the bars light, stiff, and durable
  • Lighter than the R5 without costing much more
  • Snake bars have s longer reach, deeper drop, and a rounded curve
  • Available in 40, 42, 44, and 46cm c-t-c widths

I enjoy a traditional bend, this affords a wide variety of options with moderately deep drop. The reach is not too long on the hoods and the finish on the bars looks exceptional. Overall this is the new standard on all my bikes.

fit is everything

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Over the last year i've finally been putting a lot of miles on my road bike (fun rides, training rides and commuting), and decided it was time to do some cockpit rework to fit my body a bit better. For a bit of background i got my bike used and just adjusted things to get as close a fit as possible. One of the best upgrades I've made thus far was these handlebars. If nothing else, the number of sizing options you have available is incredible and makes finding the right setup (or at least a good starting point) much easier. These are awesome. the one thing that was hard to get used to was changing from an ergo to classic bend in the drops.
