Description

Anatomically crafted for comfort.

Designed for chameleons with medium levels of flexibility and low pelvic rotation while pedaling, the Fi'zi:k Antares R3 Open Saddle relieves pressure and numbness with its anatomically correct center cut-out. It provides just the right amount of support and flexibility, allowing you to find your power spot and maintain comfort as you rack up long miles on the road.

The Antares R3 Open Saddle uses a carbon-reinforced nylon shell in conjunction with lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant K:ium alloy rails. Fi'zi:k places a plush layer of Comfort Core foam directly beneath the durable Microtex cover to alleviate pressure on your sensitive tissue areas. Plus, it's compatible with Fi'zi:k's Integrated Clip System for securely attaching saddle bags and safety lights.

Lets call this a first impression

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got this saddle to replace the Specialized Power Comp that I never quite fell in love with. I found the curvature of the saddle kept me in an uncomfortable position, or cause me to slide, and at about the 3 hour mark would become unbearable. I wanted something flatter. I was on the fence between getting this saddle and the Fabric Scoop Flat. I ended up choosing this one due to the relief area, and a flatter profile compared to what Fabric had to offer. So far I am glad I did.

My bike is setup with about a 3.5" drop from saddle to bars, and I have the saddle mounted with a slight downward angle. Having just got it last night, this review is based on my initial impression from this morning's ride. The most important thing that I noticed was nothing.

When I say I noticed nothing, I mean exactly that: nothing drew my attention to the saddle. No discomfort, no sliding, no feeling locked in a position, no *cough* numbness *cough*, nothing. It turns out that nothing was everything that I was looking for in a saddle.

Today's ride was only 23 miles, but this first impression should be predictive of how I will feel about it in the long run. My previous saddle I had for 2000 miles, but I knew within the first 25 that I just didn't like it. This will be a long season for me, and if my opinion of this saddle changes, I will update this post.

Erik,

Can you comment which width Power saddle you were using and what width Fizik Antares saddle you are using....along with any updates?

Both the Specialized Power Comp and this Fizik Antares Open R3 (regular) are 142mm wide.

Raced this weekend on it, and still good.

Thanks for the follow up Erik. I have also wished for something flatter than the 143 mm Specialized Power. I will be ordering one of these in the regular width.

So at this point in the past two and a half weeks I've ridden 400 miles, with the longest being 76 miles and 6000 feet of climbing, and 6 races. Still very happy with the saddle. Only change I made is leveling it out a little. My mountain climb ride was 4.5 hours, and my saddle was not an issue at all.
