Sometimes bad things happen. Even a light-duty cross-country ride or some casual backcountry exploring can result in injury. In the event that you happen to embrace this reality and still want to go fast, the FR Lite Protector Hydration Pack is there to provide some added protection to your backside in the event of a crash, even if it seems wholly unlikely.
Like many other Evoc packs, the FR Lite (FR standing for Free Ride) is made primarily of an ultra-tough and water-resistant blend of PU-coated ballistic ripstop nylons, with Air Mesh paneling along the rear to promote breathability to keep you cool. The result is an amazingly light and comfortable but bombproof pack that fits flat and feels minimal. The FR Lite is the smallest of Evoc's Protector series, but it still boasts a generous 10 liters (size M/L) of cargo volume for all-day adventures or a race stage or two, and can accommodate a hydration bladder up to 3 liters in size (not included). Dedicated smaller pockets for your cellphone, a map, and sunglasses boost utility, too, along with reflective webbing and a light clip to make you more visible when riding at night.
No description of an Evoc FR Protector pack would be complete without highlighting the technology that gives it its namesake. All Protector packs are CE-certified with Evoc's Liteshield Back Protector, a system featuring a super-light plate of temperature-insensitive materials — like an EPS core and foam damping layers — that reduce shock to the spine by up to 95% in the event of an accident. Completely replaceable in the event of being damaged, the ISP (Integrated Spine Protection) plate and its associated materials only add approximately 150 grams to each pack into which the system is integrated, making the decision just that much easier for riders who ride hard and push their limits.
The FR Lite Protector Hydration Pack comes in two sizes, Small and Medium/Large, which should be chosen based on the rider's height (170cm in height is the approximate boundary between the two). The pack comes in the colors Team Sky and Black.

- How to Measure Your Torso:
- Measure your torso length by bending your head forward so your chin touches your chest. Feel for the most prominent bump at the back of your neck. Now measure from that point down to an imaginary line connecting the tops of your hips around your back. This works best with a partner's help.

Saved my travels!
After spending so much time in the airport and running around from canceled flights and delayed flights, this pack sat so comfortably on my back and shoulders with a chest and waist strap.
Not Just for Riding
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
The Evoc FR Lite Protector Hydration Pack is so multi-use I can't even handle it. Take it out riding when you are doing some rad enduro ripping. It has a an awesome light weight back protector that offers a little more security and protection should the unthinkable happen. It also can accommodate a hydration pack if you are going to be out for awhile. I love the straps, they are absolutely comfortable and offer great support. Also, I am about 5'4", 125 pounds, 130 pounds on the weekdays or after I feast a bit. I chose the size small and it fits awesome.
The best part about the pack was being able to remove the back protector and traveling with it while I flew out to races. It had a few compartments internally and external to keep a few things organized. It wasn't meant for ultra-organization so make sure you bring a few Zip-Lock baggies to help out. I also used additional straps to hold my POC Octal helmet on. This thing is rad.
