Ole for comfortable shorts

Just because you haven't made the switch to bib shorts doesn't mean you should find your only choice in riding shorts ill-fitting and scratchy. Etxeondo took the best features of its women's bibs and added a few more details so that you'll be just as comfortable as your bib wearing friends.

The Olaia uses Etxeondo's Powersystem 1.2 fabric cut into multiple panels. Unlike other manufacturers who strive to create as many panels as possible, Etxeondo knows that if constructed properly, minimal panels not only are able to provide the same fit, they also minimize chafing from excess seams. The Powersystem fabrics feature Lycra Sport threads woven into the fabric which gives it flex to move with you. Additionally, the material features light compressive qualities which help to minimize muscle vibration from rough roads. It also is breathable and helps to move moisture away from your skin. The 1.2 designation makes it a medium-weight fabric. Lighter weight mesh-woven panels have been placed at the hips of the Olaia shorts. These help to further keep you dry and cool by allowing excess heat to escape.

To ensure that you'll ride in comfort, Etxeondo used its top-tier women's chamois in the Olaia shorts. This multi-density insert was constructed in three pieces, all connected with chafe-free seaming, which ensure that it conforms to your curves no matter what direction you are moving. It is constructed around E.I.T. microfiber that features two layers to help move moisture away from your skin. Under the top layer are several densities of foam which provide support for your sit bones while cushioning soft tissue areas.

Don't let the "shorts" designation scare you away. The Olaia shorts feature an extra-wide waistband with a deep V in the front. This detail ensures that your waist won't be pinched by thin elastic. Wide elastic grippers at the legs hold the shorts in place. The shorts are finished with reflective details which help to increase your visibility if your ride extends into dusk.

The Etxeondo Olaia Shorts - Women's are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors: Black/pink, Black/red, and Black/white.

I like them, yet I don't...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L

I'm 5'8" and 145 lbs; I got size L. The fabric is very nice and giving. Almost thought I could fit in a M if I wanted a tighter fit. I like the shorts, yet I don't. They're comfortable and light on. However, I noticed the chamois comes up high on the back of my bum, not really aligning with my sit bones. Because of this, when I rode in them, for the first time my butt felt numb. It was an odd sensation. Numb but not a pleasant numb because it felt like the numbness was wanting to run down my legs. Which was not ideal when climbing 2500ft in 9 miles. I kind of appreciated tho that the chamois was more thin in front around my lady bits. I hate when shorts tend to bunch there. I like the shorts overall, but can't see enduring more than a 50 or so mile ride in them-because of the numbing sensation. Also, they come up really high on my waist, past my belly button-a first. I thought it would aggravate me while bent forward on the bike but it actually didn't, I hardly noticed since the material is that light. Overall I like them and will keep them.

Great short and even better Chamois

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am always looking for a thinner chamois that is comfortable, even on long rides. These are well made with quality fabric. I own Assos, Castelli & Giordana. Like the other reviewer, I am not a fan of elastic leg grippers but these are wide and don't give me "sausage legs." I am 5'5" and 125 lbs. I bought the medium and love the fit.

Excellent shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Good quality, excellent quality/craftsmanship. Very comfortable waist and leg - I am not a big fan of tight elastic or grippers and these are fitted but don't bind up at the waist or legs. Thick comfy chamois. I'm female, 5'-4" and 135 lbs and the L fit me well (and that is what I normally wear in cycling shorts). Inseam/leg length is a bit long on me (almost to knee) but that works out fine in wintertime as it provides more leg coverage.
