Grip evolution.

Designed for all-mountain and gravity-oriented disciplines, the Ergon GA1 Evo Grips feature a rounder, more traditional profile. The shape is subtler, than Ergon's other grips, yet they still feature a position- and hand-specific design.

For function, the grips have been contoured for easy grasping. And for comfort, Ergon has padded the GA1 Evo grips with a combination of soft rubber and center gel for enhanced damping. Both attributes have been heightened with the GA1's left- and right-specific design, where each grip is contoured to fit the hand that it was designed for. For a simple setup, Ergon marks 'left' and 'right' on each grip, as well as 'up,' so that you know which way to orient the grips. The grips are locked into place via slim, lightweight aluminum clamps at the end of the bars.

The Ergon GA1 Evo Grips are available in the colors Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White. Please note that they are not designed to work with twist shifters, and that any customizing of the grip will invalidate the warranty.

Nice feel

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Tacky with and without gloves. Having the locks on the out edge is a benefit for those who use a narrow hand position.

Grab These Grips

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I wish I had a better photo (I'll update it when I can), but I've had these grips for this season and have loved them. They're on my 780mm width bars on my SB5.5. I ride all sorts of styles of riding, but most often "all mountain" which is what they were intended for.

In terms of durability, they've held up well so far (only 400 miles in on them). I've taken a few diggers on them and no signs of damage, as well as general wear on the grips. The rubber is a pretty happy medium softness (really not that soft, but also not uncomfortably hard at all).

The "ergonomic" function of these isn't as exaggerated as grips like the GE1's, but they fit nicely on the hands. They're also a bit slimmer fitting, which I prefer.

I like the way the locking feature sticks out a bit - you can easily where the ends of the bars are and is nice for the pinky to rest on.

I'd pretty happily throw these on a future bike - if you have any questions on these and if they'd be a good choice for you & your bike, give a shout to my direct line 801.204.4547 or email

Grab These Grips

Get a grip ! (from Ergon)

These are wonderful - comfortable yet not 'sloppy' like the foam ones. They seem to have the right amount of cushion in the right place, yet I feel 'connected' to the bike under all circumstances. I also like the GSI contoured ones, have them on another bike. But I think these are preferred as they are a bit slimmer in the palms.

    Good Grip

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The shape of the grip is not so obtrusive that there is only one to grab it. The feel of the handle is very nice, soft but not mushy. I have only used them for about a month, so can't speak to durability.

    Excellent on the hands

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Do your hands go numb while shredding hard on your mountain bike? Do they go numb while riding around the neighborhood with the kids? If so, I highly recommend checking out a pair of these grips. These grips are pretty sweet, especially on longer rides or in rough technical descents. They are ergonomic on the hands and provide a lot of support as well. They aren't TOO big on the hands especially if you have smaller hands like I do, but I think they do make a pair that is a little thicker if you do have big hands. They are a breeze to install, and one bolt on each grip secures the grip to the bar. With a proper tension, you will find that they will stay in place with no slip on carbon or aluminum bars. They last a long time too and can even take a beating or two if you are hard on your bike. Even with just laying the bike down on its side you will start to see some wear, but the grip material is very durable. In the picture are actually the GA2 grips, that have a slightly tackier material and come in a brighter array of colors, but other than that are pretty identical to the GA1

    Excellent on the hands

    My go to grip...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've got some version of these on every one of my bikes. I have found these minimize my hand fatigue more than any other grip I've tried and are more comfortable. Ergon used to make them in different sizes and I used to prefer the larger size, so only giving 4 out of 5 stars

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the ergonomics of these grips. They feel like an over-the-counter custom grip, where the grip is molded to your hands. However, they are not very durable. I found the outer portion of the grip was almost completely worn down within one season. The question for you is: do you want a superior grip at the cost of paying $25 per season for that benefit. Probably so.

Hey, most Ergons are not recommended for Carbon Fiber bars. Does anyone know whether these are safe for install on CF? Thanks!

    Update from their site:

"The choice of Ergon Factory Riders. One form, 5 colours. Increased damping thanks to use of a new compound. Weight greatly reduced through use of a stable composite clamp. Details: Inner core - Ergon Green (not visible when fitted). Carbon bar compatible."

I do not have an "official" answer for you but I have used these grips with two different carbon bars with no issues whatsoever.

    Tried and true

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my go to grips, and have been for years (in different versions of course.) Why? They're comfortable as the subtle contour fills the void in your palm. So when you go for epic rides, you suffer less fatigue. Secondly, the end cap is slightly larger than the grip, providing additional leverage to pull against, and a comfortable reminder of the limits of the bar.
