Why We Like The SES Aero Road Handlebar

The ENVE SES Aero Road Handlebar is built for one thing: going fast. It's ENVE's first foray into internal cable routing, resulting in a clean look that cuts through the air. The flat, wide top section of the bars slices wind when you need speed and provides a big platform for resting tired hands at the end of an interval. Exquisite Bars... BUT...!

I returned this product before using it
Runs small

These bars are a true work of art, I'll never go back to standard bars whether they are carbon or not, I'm in love with these and I haven't even put them on my new build yet! There is one MAJOR caveat though, the sizing applies to c to c at the bottom of the drops - standard measurement yes, but the flare results in the distance between hoods being substantially more narrow - like ALOT more narrow than what I expected. ("40's" are 35 at the hoods!) This is articulated on the ENVE site but not on BC. I had to send my 40's back for 44's - Never in my life have I ordered 44's!! Just so you know. ;)


Is the measurement at the hood or at the drop? They appear to be wider at the end of the drop than the hood.

I've put it through the wringer

These have become my favorite handlebars of all time for any of my bikes. I love the narrower brake-hood riding position for a bit more aero, but more room on the drops for sprinting with forearm clearances. The slight bump up on the tops just behind the lever hoods is also a welcome additional riding position a little more upright for long rides and keeps your fingers near or on the brakes. The slight drop flare outward is noticeable visually from the front and overhead, but once you get used to the different look, it's more welcoming to me.

Are these comfortable on longer rides (3 hours +) or should they be used for crits and/or shorter rides only?


What's the story on the ends of the bars? I see the legend "Di2 cutline" near the ends, but the ends are tapered. Do you have to cut off the ends before installing Di2 -- or bar tape, for that matter?

Hi William yes you will need to cut the ends back for that. The ends of their bars are tapered so you need to cut back to where the Di2 bar end junction box will fit in the opening.

Comfortable Bar!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I road my new Enve aero bar for the first time last night. I absolutely love it. I didn't tape the flat part and it was extremely comfortable, both from a hand position and less road noise due to the absorption of the flat bar. As they tell you the bars are narrower than the the numbers indicate and they are but I, personally, thought my old 44cm Enve road bar was a little too wide so I love the narrower width (tagged 44cm, also). I am 6'2 but don't have that broad of shoulders. The narrower width also made it more comfortable "down" on the drops. My legs felt good last night so I can't say it made me faster but the whole experience with the new bars was fantastic! I will be riding 80-100 in WI this weekend so I will follow up with a report from that ride where we will climb around 5000'. As a side note, I had ordered the "old" Enve Aero bar, hadn't received it yet, and the new Enve Aero bar came out. I took deliver of the "old" bar, liked it, but thought the markings on the top of the flat bar would wear and look bad after a while so I shipped back those bars and ordered the "new" Enve Aero bars. Very happy!

How are these for out of the saddle sprinting?

Easier routing and new di2 housing in the the handlebar


Does this new version of the aero bar have adequate room to fit hydraulic disc brake lines and mechanical shifiting cables in the internal routing?

Hey Keith, This should be able to fit hydraulic brake lines and shift cable housing inside of the bars for a nice clean look. Let me know if you have any other questions.
