Given the M60 Forty's status as a do-it all wheelset that bridges the murky space between XC speed and all-mountain durability, it's no surprise that ENVE chose it as the platform for its first Plus-specific offering. The ENVE M60 Forty Plus 27.5in Chris King Boost Wheelset lands as the answer to your top-end, Plus-sized aspirations by combining that plush traction with ENVE's coveted ride quality and sprightly responsiveness.
The 27.5in M60 Forty rim weighs in at a claimed 480g, which is feathery light considering its mammoth 40mm internal width and designation as the widest rim of ENVE's entire M-series line. Part of this weight savings is accomplished by trading in traditional bead hooks for a redesigned hookless bead, which is both lighter and more impact-resistant. That wide internal platform is designed to pair optimally with 2.8 to 3in tires for a round tire profile, which translates to greater cornering stability and more rubber on the ground at any given time.
Anyone who’s familiar with ENVE knows the fanatical lengths that its engineers go to in order to achieve a perfect ride feel, and by removing material from the rim, ENVE takes the M60 Forty’s tuned ride to previously unseen levels. As with its narrower siblings, the M60 Forty Plus has been tuned to provide a degree of vertical compliance, which reduces rider fatigue, without sacrificing the fantastic lateral rigidity that endows ENVE wheels with the “on rails” feeling for which they’re prized, even with those plush tires.
The rim tells the bulk of the story, but it's also worth noting that these wheels are hand built in Utah, to exacting standards, which provides the longevity you’d expect out of a class-leading wheel system. They’re also laced to Chris King hubs, which are typically only seen on custom premium builds.
