Great Pad, Easy to Use!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- True to size
I purchased this for my dad's birthday. He has a 2018 Ford F 150 truck and he and my mom just got some new mountain bikes. My Dad used about 10 tie downs to haul the 2 bikes in the back of his truck previously and this made the perfect gift! He loves it and its so easy to load and carry their 2 bikes. It even has straps in the middle that hold the bikes down. I tried to research and see which pad would fit best and this one works great. Protects his truck nicely and was a fair price. Highly recommend

Large Fits 03 Ram 2500
- Familiarity:

Love this thing. Got it $100 with 2-Day shipping. On-trac screwed up and stopped updating the tracking. Chatted with Backcountry on the phone and they immediately sent another one offering overnight UPS for my trouble on a discounted item - UNREAL service. I had them send it out 2-day again and installed it that night on my 03 Ram 2500. I have a flush-mount tonneau cover (Backflip MX4) and this fits the width and height perfectly, lines up the with the tailgate handle and allows the tonneau to close with some coercion. It offers far more protection for my bike than the towel that proceeded it - I'm VERY happy with my purchase and the service I received from Backcountry.

Not for me.
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I think this probably works well with older trucks that don't have a backup camera, but it's not great with my 2015 F-150. In order to see with the backup camera at all, I have to shift the pad farther down than it's supposed to be and jury rig a solution to keep the flap open. It also doesn't fit my trucks chunky tailgate very well. Replacing this with the updated DLX Curve pickup pad and hoping for a better fit.

Great Pad
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This pad is durable and makes shuttle laps easy and efficient. It secures the bikes on super well and is easy to put on and take off. The flap on the cover doesn't line up exactly with the tailgate latch on a Sierra but the size large fits well otherwise! Overall awesome product to help keep bikes in place and ensure you aren't scratching up your new truck.

I had the camo version of this that is more like a canvas material and it tore easily. This version is more durable so far!

Disappointing
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Although the pad seems to be decent quality, the fit is disappointing. I have a Nissan Frontier - the exterior of the tailgate is 21 inches tall (interior is 18 inches). The pad is only about 31 inches in height so there are several inches of the tailgate are uncovered. See picture. Also, the flap for the tailgate does not line up. Two other minor issues I have; - The tailgate straps are 48 inches long - Why ??There is easily 18 inches of excess... - The pad was folded in half during shipment which appears to have stretched the vinyl (?) cover & when it is strapped on the tailgate, there are several creases. I need it for a weekend trip, so I am going to keep it. If I had more time, I would look at other manufacturers pads.

Does this type of product just pad/cover the tailgate? Does it hold up the bike in anyway? Do you use a kickstand to hold the bike standing?

Hey Maureen! So yes and yes! It does a variety of things. It does pad the tailgate, as well as the frame of the bike too. You lean the front wheel over the end of the bed, so that all the weight of the bike is put on the tailgate. Also, you put part of the frame through the loops on the pad as well, so your bike is more secure. All the weight of the bike should be in the tailgate of the truck, so its left standing just fine. Most high-end bikes don't come with kickstands, so its engineered to work without them. I included a picture too, to illustrate better what I am saying. I hope that helps a bit! Contact me directly if you have any other questions, contact details above!

Sick Pad
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This Dakine pad is so nice. It does everything you need while looking awesome in the process. Love the colorway, and it fits any full size truck perfectly in the Large size. Only downside is that it will cover up the reverse camera of most trucks because the handle opening doesn't match up perfectly with the handle. I would go with the Dakine DLX pad if you're looking to be able to still use your backup cam during the biking months: https://www.backcountry.com/dakine-pickup-pad-dlx?rr=t

Great Tailgate Pad
Last season I used the RaceFace tailgate pad on my Tacoma and loved it. This year I bought a larger truck and needed a new pad so I decided to try out this one from Dakine. So far this pad has been great and I haven't noticed much of a difference from the RaceFace pad. I was a little skeptical that it would hold my bike in place as well, but so far its been doing the job. If you are looking to save some money, I would highly consider buying Dakine!

Thanks for the info. Which size did you purchase? I have an F150 but don't need the 7 bike capacity of the large pad.
