Ultra Sport II Clincher Tire

Simply put, the Continental Ultra Sport II Clincher Tire represents the legendary tire manufacturer's best intersection of value and ability. The Ultra Sport II can handle basically anything you throw at it, while both outlasting and costing far less than tires from most competitors.

Continental revamped the Ultra Sport by giving this new version a 180 TPI casing, which is up to triple the threads of anything else at this price point and more than many other brands' top-shelf offerings. The higher thread count means better ride quality and greater puncture resistance. So where are the sacrifices made that keep the costs down? The Ultra Sport II doesn't get the amazing Black Chili compound that makes the upper-end Continental tires so revered, but it does get a darn-close silica-based tread compound so it can stack on nearly as many miles as its overachieving siblings—and again, still far more than many competitors' tires at any price.

  • All-around versatile tire made with quality at an affordable prie
  • Racing tire design for responsive handling and secure grip
  • PureGrip compound offers exceptional grip and high-mileage use

Best value:money

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It has very nearly as much grip as the 4000s II (have no experience of the new 5000s) - this is not a hard plastic training tire. They get good mileage (in my experience about 3000 miles on the rear - I don't rotate on my road bike). The fine folks at have done the dirty work on how they roll, and while they're not a race tire, they're not so far off the mark either, and actually better than say the GP 4 Seasons.

All in all, this is the everyman's everyday tire.

Final note: when Conti says 180 TPI, they mean 3x60, which is not how most of us count, but I wouldn't let that put you off.

Great value

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Work just fine, and a great vaue.

That thread count is 60 TPI

It looks like a good tire for the price and has a lot of positive reviews. The thread count is 3/180 or 3 layers of 60 TPI.,
