The shorts themselves seem to be very nice and quite well made. (Made in India.) Based on the sizing chart, I ordered size M. I am 5' 11 1/4", 172 lbs., 32" waist, 38.5" hips, which should be a size M. The shorts fit perfectly in the waist and in the legs. But in the hips, they were skin tight, like painted-on tight, leaving little or nothing to the imagination, both front and back. I felt as though if I were to try sitting on a bike with them on, the seam up the middle in the back would have been stressed to the point of possibly ripping right open. So unfortunately I had to return them. I was bummed because I did like them a lot when I first took them out of the package. They seemed extremely well made, and were very nice material. I'm sure a size L would be perfect in the hips, but would probably then be too big for me in the waist. Maybe I have just been biking too much and my glutes are too big, not sure. All my Pearl Izumi size M shorts fit perfectly though.

Decent hybrid shorts (trail and beers)

Like Jared G said, these are pretty solid shorts for on and off the bike. So, value wise, they do damn well. I've more than put my old pair thru the paces and they're still in service. That said...what's weird is I have old and new pairs in my hands right now and CR changed the dimensions. Without saying anything so I had to return the first pair. Thank you BC for being easy and no thanks to CR. I still wear my smalls and now have to wear their mediums (I'm 32 waist). Also, be aware...the colors on the photos above are not accurate (except for black). The blue is off as is asphalt. I know...I ordered both and returned the cool in pic but weird in life blue color (also because of the sizing). CR, if you read this, please delete your current sizing and change to the time tested waist measurement system. Letters lie, numbers don't. For those curious, these do not stretch.

I have an older pair of Mtn. Surf shorts which I have enjoyed, so I decided to try these. The material is durable, they are comfortable, and they are not too "bikey" so I can wear them around while waiting to hit the trail. I expect these to last many years of casual wear and bike riding.
