Easy to carry, tasty, and full of nutrition.

Variety is the spice of life -- we couldn't agree more. We understand ('cause we've been there) that after numerous hours of training and racing, the body needs to mix it up a little in terms of what goes in the tank. That's why the folks at Clif Bar set out to create another energy food option that complements their bars and gels. The result is Clif Shot Bloks. They're simple-to-handle, easy-to-chew, and provide similar nutrition to Shot gel, so they'll fit seamlessly into your training and racing nutrition program.

The primary ingredient for Shot Bloks is brown rice syrup which provides easily assimilated carbohydrates for working muscles, and they provide the mineral salts known as electrolytes. These electrolytes allow electrical impulses to travel properly throughout your body, permitting normal bodily function. When you sweat, you start to deplete your electrolyte stores and experience potential performance decline, so it's best to help replenish them through food and fluid intake.

Clif created Shot Bloks, each in a 10g size, so that 3 Bloks provide 100 calories. That makes it easy to track caloric intake during long outings. There are 6 Bloks to a single serve package, so one package provides 200 calories.

In one order of Shot Bloks you'll get 18 individual 6-Blok packages. The individual packages slide easily into your jersey pocket for quick access while taking up minimal space. This design also keeps it simple to squeeze the Bloks directly into your mouth for single handed re-fueling. Bloks are available in Black Cherry, Cola, Orange, Margarita, Cran Razz, Lemon Lime, Mountain Berry and Strawberry. Black Cherry and Cola have 50mg caffeine, Orange has 25mg. Margarita has 3x the sodium while the remaining Shot Bloks offer no additional stimulants. Please be forewarned that you're all-but-certain to get terribly addicted. For all of their nutritional value, they are candy on the palate. In our experience it's the first athlete-focused food you'll ever need to protect from the non-athletes in your life.

  • 18 sleeves of 6 Bloks
  • 100 calories per three blocks
  • Contains carbohydrates and electrolytes
  • Some flavors contain extra sodium or caffeine

Salted Watermelon is Tasty

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The favorite chew on our MTB team is the Salted Watermelon. It makes the ride even better.

they do the job

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

a toss up between these and a gel, these are a little cleaner to get in you so thats nice in a race. you do have to chew them, not as good in a race. they do work about the same as any gel I've used. My kids like them more and it's good to have something help me get something in them on a longer or more intense ride. Taste is palatable, not too bad.

To Chew or Not to Chew

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great, in theory. I thought I would try these as an alternative to good old gels. My verdict: they're okay for training, when you can let up for a while and spend the time chewing them up before swallowing them. Not so much when racing, or whenever you're drilling it. Chewing them restricts airflow to the old carburetor for way too long, even one at a time. I suppose one could swallow them whole, once the gag reflex is tamed, but surely this would affect digestion/absorption? But then you are still left with half of the cube lodged in your teeth, even after a few pulls on the bottle. If the appeal of these comes down to mostly psychological concerns: having something substantial or more like a real snack, then I will stick with a bar--something you can take manageable nibbles off of. You can't beat gels, in my opinion, for quick and easy nutrition.

Actually, I bite mine in half while riding and tuck them into my cheeks. It dissolves slowly and does not restrict air intake.

Got to love them

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 3 boxes

My nickname is Bikebeast and I generally ride 100 miles a day on the bike. When I see these on sale I always grab a couple boxes. They taste good, are easy to chew and swallow and I’ve found that they also work well with the Ph1500 tablets I use in my water bottles. This combination works great to continually ride and hold speeds of over 20mph for century after century ride I do. I like that 3 chews make a serving so a package contains two servings which is convenient for long rides.

...energy sustainer during a moderate to intense effort. Always have a sleeve of these in the pack for bonk proofing as well. Taste great...melt in your mouth. Highly recommend.

Great Things come in small packages

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great for those who are sodium deficient and need fuel. Much less weight and space than a Gatorade or drink mix, and won't make nature call while on a multi pitch.

Go to nutrition

These are my go to for ski touring, I like to carry a mix of some with caffeine, some without.

    Great bulk buy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Very flavorful and a great way to get some quick energy when on a long hike.

    Wake Me Up Inside

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love these. Pretty tasty and they do the job. Almost feels like an athletic Starburst. Dig it.

    BOMBER Bloks!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are the absolute best! Great for when you need a little boost to help get you through the rest of the day. I carry these everywhere I go. Throw a couple in your pack and you are set for a full day out in the backcountry. Salted Watermelon and Black Cherry are my favorites.

Great for that extra energy boost!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I primarily use the Clif Shot Bloks while training or long distance runs and they provide an extra boost of energy and they taste great!

    Better than Gummy Bears

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The perfect mid activity snack. Biking, hiking, skiing, taking out the garbage, everything you do, these taste great and give you the energy you need to make it!

    Race Go-To

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use these for long training & long race days. They always do the trick for me & I have never had any stomach issues with them. I dig the Black Cherry with caffeine flavor.

    Always a staple

I’ve been eating these for years and they’re great. They don’t upset my stomach and can even settle an upset stomach. I prefer strawberry.

      Cliff Blocks

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My son is getting into mt. biking more and joined the high school team, he loves to have these with him on rides and even at the races.

They stick well to his frame for easy access during the race:)

      Cliff Blocks

      Easy to eat, tastes good

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use these because they're easy to access and eat on a bike. My favorites are the salted watermelon, which have the benefit of providing some electrolyte function as well as easy to digest sugar. I also like the Tropical Punch with caffeine for the extra boost.
I'm a diabetic and these have been super handy when I've needed a quick boost to my blood sugar. Two blocks are about 15 g of carbohydrate.

      Easy & Effective

I open the package a little and keep the whole sleeve in the back pocket of my running shorts. I can reach for them one by one as I run or carry the sleeve next to my water bottle. Taste is pleasant, does not make me thirst and I never had a tummy upset. Easier to dispose or carry home the packaging compared to gels where you have to open then on the run, get hands sticky and the empty packets are messy to carry if there is no bin in sight.

        Convenient shape

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Clif makes the best chews. My favorite part about them is the shape of the package. Easily fits in a back jersey pocket for riding. They also have great flavors. My favorites are salted watermelon, margarita, and mountain berry.

        great through out a ride

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use these throughout my rides to keep my energy up. They are very easy to digest and easy on my stomach. I have even used them to fuel a century ride.
