And the handy-dandy seat belt buckle can also open your beer.

Strap yourself into Chrome's Metropolis Messenger Bag and take a ride downtown. With 40 liters of interior space, the Metropolis is Chrome's largest buckle messenger bag and is ready to haul all the gear you need for a day on the town. It swallows 17-inch laptops for breakfast and still has enough room to house a change of clothes, your lunch, books, water bottle, and a few groceries. The super-tough outer fabric will withstand years of beatings and the weatherproof truck-tarp liner with military spec binding prevents its seams from being exposed to the outside world.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag has it all. Bulletproof. Durable. Huge. and most importantly it is stylish.

I am no where near wearing out my first one and I have several friends that have put years on similar bags, all with no issues to report.

Bike messenger approved

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used to be a bike messenger and this was my everyday bag. If you like single strap messenger bags, this is a great one! It survived my abuse through the elements, and still looks almost new. Plenty big to hold anything you can think of and made in America. Beware people will try and push the seat belt button.

Solid as a rock

great pack, zero issues. Very very large and very durable

Yes - it can hold a vacuum cleaner.

For the record: the bag already had two jackets, a pair of rain pants, a hoodie, climbing shoes/chalk bag/harness, and a macbook pro. Solid as a rock.

Yes - it can hold a vacuum cleaner.

Hahahaha! Nice Roger!

Glad to know this can transport vacuums comfortably!

Ruggedly massive.

Bought this as a replacement for my 15 year-old Baileyworks Courier, and fully expect the Metropolis to last as long, if not longer. This bag is built like a tank, and is almost as big. I've carried a week's worth of groceries in it, stacks of library books, and a case of beer with room left over. And the wide, cushioned shoulder strap carried that weight comfortably, and combined with the stabilizer, kept it from shifting as I rode. A bomber, bomber bag. It is huge, though, and at 6'1" and 175, it covers my entire back, and can be a bit smothering in the heat. But it's maybe the best bag of its kind, and well worth the price.

Durability at its finest

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have owned my Chrome Metropolis since 2005 and it is still going strong. No tears, no rips, and has held up to all the rigors I have put it through:

Hauling 30 beers-Tight, but check

Hauling books, laptops, etc-Check

Secret flask storage-Check

I was just wondering why yesterday I bought the same exact bag for $159.95 and now today checking my E-mail I found the same exact bag for $119.96? This concerns me because just one day difference makes me feel like I got shafted. I wonder why the reduction in price over night? does the one I ordered magically lose it's luster?

Don't fret, call Backcountry right now @800-409-4502 with either your order number or the website where you saw this cheaper. They'll fix you right up and you won't feel shafted anymore.

why does the warranty only say good for one year on the metropolis but lifetime on the falcon bag? i thought all chrome bags were guaranteed for life? also which shoulder does this bag go over, it never asked me left or right?

    Left Shoulder Specific

      Hey guys,

I just wanted to give a heads up, this bag is left shoulder specific---Great for right handers...lefties, well, that's the devils work.

      Stokered right out.

Been using this bag for the last few months. Previously I was using a regular backpack but got sick of all the straps hanging off, especially when flying. I like how simple this bag is going through TSA, and how well it works just everyday for cruising around town doing errands on my bike. Solid buy.

Wonderful off the bat, itlived up to its clame to fame. no kidding about fitting you whole life in this bag. sturdy, the extra strap that goes under your arm accross the chest for extra tug, isn't always needed because of the heft of the bag it usually stays put but on those windy days in chicago, yes it is a must. unfortuanately I didn't seearch very hard before i bought minez, so I paid full price n tax from chrome website, but I was also being a princess/Debby about the color... my only gripe is the lenght of the strap from the pull clamp, I'm a thin n lanky so when not ccarrying much i pull it tight n snug like, and so it's a lot of dangle that I wrap up, don't want to cut n restich just incase i need extra length....if not for that I'd give it five stars... maybe I'll add a thin velcro strip on the strap to hold it in place and not dangle or drop... fraid one day it might get caught in the chainring, or rear wheel and then I face plant!

I have the mini metro and tug the end/hold the plastic piece of the strap to shorten it every time i use the bag based on the load i'm carrying. surprised you didn't notice.

          Is it water proof?

          Is it water proof?

Mary, yes this bag is waterproof. It has two pockets inside. The inner main packet is made out of vinyl and continue up onto the main top flap. There is a secondary pocket inside that is basically created by the vinyl pocket sitting inside the decorative outer pocket. Anything inside the Vinyl pocket will not get wet.
